Chatting and coding consumer video app - Come Join in

Come code and chat - building a company from scratch :). Love to hear feedback from potential users too.

Basically, it's an app where you can collect video messages for someone's birthday or another occasion, and pool in $ for a group gift. It's called Cake (www.startacake.com)

Hey, there's a nice seed for an idea here. Have you thought about how you're planning on marketing this?

There are a few things i've been experimenting with, but that is definitely a Work in Progress!

That's cool! A thought came to mind as I was browsing the site. Maybe if the initiator knows what (cost-wise) they are getting the recipient, there could be a fundraising thermometer that shows how much money has been raised to be able to buy the gift.

My best bud lives in Hayward btw! Been there many times. Check out my stream and come chat one day. Just started it up, will be on tomorrow: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCzsvFtfaP3wUYLophqBzlzg

Yep Totally Agree. Currently what I'm looking at is pulling in from Amazon API so you can pick an actual gift (or many?), then it would sum the amounts, and show people what items and how close they are. That way, even if you don't hit the goal 100%, they'll get an amazon gift card towards the gifts - and if they want something a bit different they can just pick what they want.

btw just uploaded a vlog, check the other comment for the channel link... if you're interested in following along with the progression of the company :)
