Cheap Android phone for testing?

I need to acquire an Android phone for testing React Native apps, I won't use it for any other purpose.

What is a good cheap handset to go for that will do the job and run the latest Android OS?

Well, there are cheap and low-quality mobiles, and I don't want to recommend you such devices, but instead I would like to recommend you the cell phone which I find the best when we compare the report price quality. I have a VIVO, and I strongly recommend it to all my friends. VIVO makes cool devises for reasonable prices, so if you need a cell phone for experiments you can boldly take it. Recently I installed a new firmware. This idea came to me when I accidentally clicked on this site https://vivogeek.com/download-vivo-y21l-firmware-flash-file-original-tested-firmware-latest-2020/, so if you want you can also check it.

Does an Android emulator not work for your use case?

It does, but I just like to be super-safe and test it on a device via play store :-)

If you want to have the latest Andrid version, go for an old Pixel, 2 or 3a will do, whichever is cheaper.
You'll get an Android that will get updates for a couple of years, plus a great camera 😎

I'd go with any of those Xiaomis, Nexus 5x or 6p or literally anything sim-free from eBay I guess 😊 They're cheap for sure.

    edit
I use Samsung S5 (7), Nexus 5x (8.0.1), Xiaomi Poco F1 (9), Samsung J5 (9) for testing native apps, not sure about React natives, but I figure it's not different anyway :)

I’d buy a used Pixel 2 from swappa. I use the Pixel 2 XL for testing.
