Hey IH Community,
I’ve been working on a Chrome extension called Pluck that lets you pluck data from any webpage or file (CSV, Excel, JSON, Parquet) and analyze it instantly — with SQL — right in the browser.
Why I built it
I constantly ran into the same problem: I’d download a CSV/JSON just to take a “quick look,” but ended up wasting time opening Python, Excel, or uploading to some sketchy online tool. Way too heavy for simple checks, and not great for privacy either.
So I built Pluck:
Open files instantly in Chrome
Extract & query tables directly from websites
Run SQL locally with DuckDB (privacy-first, no cloud)
Convert between file formats in one click
Current status
It’s live in the Chrome Web Store. I’ve been using it myself for scraping tables, quick data sanity checks, and converting formats — but I want to see how others use it.
The ask
If you work with data: what’s the first thing you’d try it on?
Any “must-have” features that would make this a tool you’d keep in your daily workflow?
Does the onboarding make sense, or is it confusing?
I’ll be sharing my progress, lessons, and mistakes here as I go. Excited (and nervous) to put this out into the IH community — feedback and tough love very welcome!
