Closing in on Perligo’s Alpha Launch

Perligo is designed for writers who want great feedback groups in a digitally native format. It was built based on my experiences workshopping my own short stories, but it’s not just for fiction writers. Info product writers, poets, comics writers, and screenwriters can all participate.

The alpha launch will be a closed launch, made available through invite only. This is to test the platform with real users and start to bootstrap the community. The goal is for Perligo to offer public critique groups writers can join and private groups that you can invite others to. The alpha will launch with private groups only. I’m hoping that when Perligo exits alpha, some of the groups created will decide to switch to public groups so that there’s already a community available for writers to join.

That said, the public groups part of Perligo is the thing I’m most nervous about. It’s hard to build a network large enough to make something like public groups work, and public groups will never make Perligo money. But they are important to me because I remember when I first started out on my writing adventure, I didn’t know anyone. I couldn’t just fire up a private group and invite people to critique my work. Public writing groups were a foot in the door for me, so to speak.
