Clubhouse is pivoting to audio-only group messages between friends.
Curious if you've been using Clubhouse and if you think this pivot is going to work.
I enjoy live voice communication over text, but if choosing between async text vs audio, I would always choose text.
I dislike it when even close/friends and family send me an audio message instead of a text. I don't have the time to listen to that, and if I want to communicate, I'd prefer to call.
Personally, I don't see it working.
Perfect said. Irritated most when it's a voice message from your hatred relative :)
Oh I agree 💯
I totally agree with you. You either text or either call, anything in middle is too inconvinent.
No. It will not.
in age of golden AI, you choose to pivot instead of using AI to make voice more accessible?
From the product perspective it seems completely new way to communicate. Typing is slow & having voice adds so much personal touch.
But in the end unless it develops itself as primary medium of communication (like other chat based apps does), it feels more like an early stage startup working towards MVP.
Imagine being in a concert, where band is playing the music, while the crowd is cheering (having a video context makes 10x more sense in this scenario).
The only time audio only format works is while playing a music or listening to a podcast (both of which doesn't fall into broadcast medium instead of chat).
yes audio-only group messages application have many Minority group , they are sound -lovely
I learned that no one can know what will work without checking. Different age groups have different expectations to what is fun/cool/useful...
For me audio messages are mostly annoying, but I think the most users of clubhouse would like this feature. So this could increase the activity at clubhouse.
Whether Clubhouse's pivot to audio-only group messages between friends will work depends on various factors including user adoption, the quality of the user experience, competition in the market, and the overall effectiveness of the new feature. Additionally, the success of such a pivot can also be influenced by how well it aligns with the needs and preferences of its user base.
I can't see it. But social media is fickle so who knows.
For me it's either call or async text. Anything in between is just doesn't exciting.
I think the 'pivot' could be the last attempt by Clubhouse to survive.
The reason text based messaging EXPLODED in popularity basically the minute it became available (thats SMS to all you kids out there) is because it is a significantly better way to communicate async both one to one and in a group setting.
You cannot listen (and reply) to what are basically voicemails when you're sat in a meeting at work, on public transport, at a family dinner etc.
This is the dying cry of a company that was never viable.
Not sure how many people feel that way, but audio-only messaging may not be as interesting as combination of text, emojis, photos, audio, videos etc., which is already offered by all the messengers out there.
