Code review
Non technical founder here...
I hired a US-based developer/agency to build my app. Now that the app is launching soon and I'll need to start thinking about future state, I was wondering if it's common practice or easy to have a third party developer review the work that my first developer has done.
I have a great relationship with my first developer however I don't have any frame of reference as to how many hours it should take to build something like this and if the code is good or not.
Does anyone have experience with this? What have you done?
I've been in this situation before, building an IOS app with a freelance developer (I am primarily a web dev). For me, as the lead, it was essential to get the codebase reviewed by a third party. Not because of trust, but because I wanted an extra set of eyes on the codebase to ensure we caught as many issues before launch as possible.
What we did was look in our network to see if there were any IOS developers and eventually got the app reviewed by another senior IOS developer. And it turned out that the quality was fine, but as always, there were a couple of minor issues, and more importantly, we also got some valuable feedback on some parts of the codebase that we could improve upon.
If you don't have any IOS developers in your network, I would suggest finding an agency with a good rep for IOS-developed apps. I think they'll gladly take the job because it will be a relatively easy job for them. However, I think it will be money very well spent.
