Coding hermit needs feedback on his idea

Short Version

Please help this code hermit validate his idea.

How my idea is different: Those services go "wide" - 30+ million sites - so their data isn't super fresh (days to weeks between refreshes, from what I can tell). I can go "narrow" - scan a much smaller number of sites provided directly by customers. I'd have more timely alerts (on the order of ~30 minutes of lag). As a sales person, you could get notified almost immediately after one of your prospects deployed a competing product.

What do you think of this "watch and get notified" functionality?

Please let me know your thoughts. Your feedback would be greatly appreciated, as I've been coding away in a cave for far too long with this idea. :D

Long Version

After listening to some great talks (specifically, Jason Cohen's Q&Q from MicroConf 2015), it hit me like a ton of bricks that I've been doing exactly the wrong thing - sitting in a cave and working on my idea for months instead of validating it. So, here is the start of my validation efforts. From what I have read and heard recently, it sounds like I have a lot of this ahead of me, and I'm frankly pretty excited to make the start here.

Background

There are SaaS's out there (https://builtwith.com, https://www.datanyze.com, https://www.wappalyzer.com) that collect data on what technologies a website is built with (here's Indie Hackers w/BuiltWith). This is useful for lead generation purposes (among other things) - if you sell a competing or complementary product, you use these tools to find companies that might be interested in what your product. This is where my idea - to build something similar, but "better" - started.

There's clearly demand for the service these sites offer, but I finally came to my senses and realized I, as someone that hacks for ~2 hours every morning before my full time job starts, shouldn't compete directly with them, as they're very mature and have tons of functionality. So I'm trying to validate if there is a niche in this space that is still relevant for me, and if so, what it looks like.

My Idea

My thinking is that these services focus on going "wide" - they scan 30+ million sites, and therefore are a bit limited in terms of the freshness of their data (days to weeks between refreshes, from what I can tell). I can go "narrow" by scanning a much smaller number of sites (provided by customers). Doing so, the results I'd get would be more timely (on the order of updated hourly). As a sales person, you could get notified almost immediately after one of your prospects deployed a competing product.

Note: the competitors in this space also offer "alert" functionality, but the timeliness of my alerts is what I think could be a differentiator.
