Cofounder divorce/firing?

Hi - I'm currently cofounder dating and one of the advised questions to test for fit is to talk about ways to handle cofounder divorce/firings. In a bootstrapped business with no Board, can one co-founder fire the other and what are the financial repercussions especially if both haven't been taking a salary?

There doesn't seem to be a standard - how have you seen it be done?
