I'm looking for a cofounder.
Some obvious questions might be:
What's the idea/project?
Are you looking for a product/tech/growth person?
But this isn't that kind of search.
I'm looking for someone of a certain quality of the mind, that we can go on to achieve great things together. I know the chances are astronomically slim, "a drop in the ocean", so to speak, but it's not about the odds, it's about the one drop that already has significance.
I don't have "a genius idea that will make fortunes". That's the opposite of the Indie Hackers philosophy. I have interests, applicable skills, domain knowledge, occasionally original insight. I have some ideas of the concrete building blocks I can piece together to move towards a launch, in the Indie Hackers and JFS spirit, if I had to do it alone.
What appeals to me about the Indie Hackers mindset is the willingness to embrace the "reality engine" and the idea of business as a creative medium. The experience helps us arrive at a deeper appreciation for questions of the human condition. Our usual environment is enamoured in layers upon layers of oblivion and non-honesty, at some point it just becomes exhausting -- even fragments or moments of cogent articulation of anything that is true about the human experience can be very refreshing -- and that is precisely the the kind of clarity that helps create successful businesses.
So, it makes sense to put together a "proposal" an "looking for" in some format, to offer some credibility or promising aspects that I can bring to the table (what, if anything, other than the willingness to communicate with sincerity and substance, and a tentative belief "deep down" this willingness and other qualities have "something to contribute to the richness and success of life…" -- well, I'm definitely interested in building online products and I can write software), and so on, plus some basic info.
But what of it in terms of basic info? I'm in Berlin 🐻, but the cofounder does not have to be. Complementary skills help, of course, so is experience -- but this isn't a headcount deck (nor have they proven very effective). LinkedIn profiles are a good starting point... though I want to get to the signal through an ocean of noise.
I'm not quite so sure what to put into this "proposal" part.
For the "criteria" part, there're some notes:
An enlightened level of intellectual honesty, to speak with deliberation and meaning and substance, no ping-pong blabbing or knee-jerk readily rehearsed answers.
Willingness to think from first principles beyond fixation at the solution level, to see the endgame fabrics of logistics and microeconomics in a website that sells books.
An astute sense for the right priorities, what is on-topic, what is off, starting with the biggest elephant and most relevant question in the room, what is sensible, what is not.
The guerrilla spirit and habit to act, to reach out cold, to synthesise immediate solutions out of what is already available, to move things forward. Start with a spreadsheet not a database, an email or a zip file not an app.
A true understanding and embodiment of the school of entrepreneurship of starting with the market rather than the solution.
Some experience with go-to-market execution is highly desirable.
Please share your thoughts on how the concept above can be made more lucid and its execution more sensible.
I'm not sure what one could reply. What are you exactly looking for? What skills? How much experience? What kind of mindset? What kind of products will they be working on?
Exactly.
I apologize I didn't understand.
I agree with your assessment that the post omits certain details typically found in cofounder matching ads or freelancer/job specs.
Well, good luck to you! I too posted a new Looking for a co-founder post today.
Thanks!
