Hi guys, my name is Jord, I run ColdFire.ventures which is a baby HoldCo for all my internet projects and ventures. I live in Kenya, Europe and the US depending on the season and love to connect with fellow IHs!
This is the v1 story of MagicBlog.app, my latest bootstrapped venture that I launched last week.
I have run a polite-cold-email agency for years (ColdFire). I have witnessed the decline in ROI on cold outbound like everyone which pushed me to dig deeper into what drove these poor results. Long story short: the value proposition.
"Warm emails are just cold emails with a real, relevant, valuable message in it."
What is a real, relevant, valuable message you might ask? Well its obviously something that directly benefits the recipient and ideally for free or at no perceived cost. With those acknowledgements I started to experiment with new scripts, for various of my ventures (LifeSketch, CrispyFinance and ColdFire).
The idea was born to offer folks an interview which led to the v1 of MagicBlog at ColdFire.email/blog. Within 2 months we had collected ~140 user generated stories that spanned stories and insights about sales, marketing and growth.
With 140 articles published within 2 months, the general value prop of combining our know-how of operating cold email campaigns with a content marketing angle somewhat derisked. Next came the question of our target market: who is able, ánd interested in collecting many such user-generated stories per month in the B2B world?
We're currently testing it out with HR and 2 other niches and will report back soon with some data. For now if you have any feedback on, or interest in MagicBlog, please ping me. Running multiple ventures has its benefits as you get to peek into multiple niches but its also time consuming and comes with relatively high cost of context switching.
Peace, J
ps. I'm looking for an equity partner CMO at ColdFire.Ventures. Hands-on, meaningful equity and a base salary post 3-month trial. You'll be responsible for growth across the portfolio and help me triage which venture to double down on and which ones to kill. You'll setup analytics for all ventures and centralise content + outbound growth channels to increase the value of the portfolio. Must be hands-on, must have proven track record of growth in B2B.
