Cold email question

As a solopreneur, I am stepping into cold email marketing to grow my startup. When emailing a potential customer, I need to consider which email address I should use. On the one hand, a personal email address may provide a more friendly and inviting atmosphere. On the other hand, a work email address may be more professional and give the customer more confidence in your business. What say you on this?

Something to consider is how the person in question deals with their personal vs work inboxes, as you might find signficant differing from person to person in that regard.
Some people might pay more attention to their personal inbox than their work inbox, and some vice versa.
Some people might be more averse to receiving work-related communication on their personal inbox than others. For some people, their work inbox might already be full with marketing emails, and especially if their personal email address was harder to find, contacting them on their personal address might actually make your communication come across as more personalised and having more effort put into it.
At the risk of being considered spammy, you might just contact them on both email addresses - again, how that's received may differ from person to person, some finding it spammy and others empthasing with your attempt to reach them by all means to make sure your message gets to them.
So overall, it might be worthwhile to try making an educated guess about the specific attitude of who you're contacting.

Go with professional email address. It builds more trust and authenticity

      Thank you for the help.

Send 'business-y' stuff to work emails and 'consumer-y' stuff to personal emails.

LOL, you make it seem simple ;)

Don't use your main domain to send cold emails, because once it gets flagged as spammy it will be super difficult to undo that.

Get another domain name close to your company's current domain, make an email address with it, and use that instead.

Now, this is an interesting way to do it. My worry about using my domain is exactly like you said, getting marked spam.

If you're automating cold emails (or for email notifications from your app), this is solid advice.

But the most effective cold emails are done manual where you put in serious efforts to learn about the recipient and base your email on that.

I feel I do have that knowledge too. I work for an FQHC and know their processes inside and out. It is a market that needs help, and not just with what I am trying to build. They have so many manual processes it is painful. Another place they could use some automation and reporting needs is financial systems. Abila is the standard financial app (AP, AR, General Ledger, Project Accounting, on and on) FQHCs use, but it is not a full web app and is more of a hybrid. Plus, the UI/UX is terrible.

From personal experience I can recommend using a professional email address. It sets the tone for the rest of the conversation! You can still use a warm tone when writing your message to the customer. Don't be afraid to be a little creative here.

Appreciate this too. Cold emailing will be challenging enough for them to open/read my email.

Use your-name@your-company.com. Unless you've been in touch with them before using your personal email.

      Thanks for the feedback too.

I'm curious to know, why cold emailing?

    1. 1

FQHCs tend to do things slower, and cold email is one way to start the process. I know this because I have a full-time job at one. I have worked at three different FQHCs, and everyone one of them (except the much larger ones) do not have a robust HR or Marketing department. So they review email offers and usually trash them, but they do check them.

      1. 1

Okay, so what you're saying is cold outreach coz FQHCs do things slower. What about the quality of the audience you'll be reaching. How will you measure the potential rate?

        1. 1

As of now, it is a manual process. I am tracking all of the emails I send out. Unfortunately, I do not have a way to track open rates, etc. But I am early into the job board business, and the more I build, the more automated my systems will be.

          1. 1

I see. I suggest using more active ways to target your audience. Use lead gen tools for various rich platforms like Reddit and Twitter. All the luck btw:)
