Cold Outreach Isn’t Dead

Many founders have given up on cold outreach.

They send hundreds of messages and all they get in return are negative responses - people getting annoyed that they’re reaching out with no prior conversation.

If this is you, I have good news: there is a way to get leads and customers from cold outreach.

And it’s much simpler than you think…

Be Direct and Authentic

Back in the day, it worked better to reach out to prospects with a completely neutral message.

Something like “how’s it going?”

And from there, have a conversation with the prospect, find out if they qualify for your product or service, and then work the conversation towards a call.

Now, people are fed up with the “fake” conversation, and they want you to cut straight to the chase.

This presents a great opportunity for founders, because as long as your list is well-researched and each prospect clearly checks the boxes to be a potential customer, this direct outreach can work wonders.

Let me demonstrate…

LinkedIn outreach message example

With a well-targeted list of prospects, I started sending this straight-to-the-point message to each one:

Look at a few of the responses this simple message got:

LinkedIn outreach response 1

LinkedIn outreach response 2

LinkedIn outreach response 3

LinkedIn outreach response 4

LinkedIn outreach response 5

What’s The Lesson Here?

The lesson is simple: keep your outreach direct and to the point.

People don’t want to be bothered with a whole conversation, wondering the whole time “where’s this going?”

Neither do they want to be hit with your entire pitch in one big paragraph.

What works the best is this:

Short, sweet, to the point.

If they’re interested, they’ll let you know, and you can either book a call or explain your offer right there.

How is your cold outreach going? I’d be curious to know and more than willing to help out.

Feel free to drop a reply!

Cheers,

Avery

Totally with you on cutting the small talk. Since list quality does most of the work, I pair a one-line ask with a tiny proof and a 20–30s personal video. It feels direct yet human. The lift came from sending each prospect to a page that said their name, firm, and problem in plain text while the video played.

I keep it to one question and a single CTA. Sendr from AppSumo lets me record once and spin those pages at scale, so it stays lean for a solo founder. The replies got nicer and the "not now" notes turned into future threads rather than blocks.

I like this idea, and I know the percentage of interested people can be small compared to the amount of emails you send. Still, starting relations and having really good customers interested in your product is nice. Question is: how did you find these emails? Is there any platform for this?

This was all on LinkedIn - my personally favorite platform for cold outreach.

I use Sales Navigator to create a targeted list, and then MeetAlfred to reach out to the list.

Hi Avery what's your advice on cold reach for discovery interviews. At this stage you don't have a product but you are trying to understand the market and problem space. It's been hard for us to get people to talk to us especially for a b2b saas company.

Hey there, cold outreach on LinkedIn is definitely the way to go to secure interviews.

I recommend being direct with your outreach, briefly stating that you are working on a project and you think the prospect would be the perfect expert to help you answer a few important questions.

In my experience, people want to help when they feel like the expert and when they feel needed.

Experiment with your outreach messaging and your "pitch" to book the interview and you'll start seeing results in no time!

    Totally agree.
However, I think you have missed an important point of personalising the cold emails when doing a wide reach cold email campaign. That surely helps and thats why we created an app for that, check it out! DM if have any questions xD
