Communicating developer skills

Hey

I was thinking how other developers communicate their skills and how clients/jobs perceive this expertise. In my case I've been doing a bunch of projects for a lot of clients using a lot of different technologies but that sometimes also makes it hard to communicate exactly what I can offer.

So I was thinking there might be a product idea here and was curious how other people solve this problem. Currently I'm using a mix of a resume, some portfolio pieces and coding tests where available.

Another thing is learning new frameworks and starting to use those for projects and putting those new skills to use. This is dealt with poorly in current job listings.

So – does this have legs?
