Companies using Fake AI

Nearly every tech startup is touting the use of AI in their products or business processes. They release press and marketing materials advertising smart, new features that “look” like artificial intelligence, all under the guise that this rebrand will serve the end user better.

We went and did our research on how to spot fake AI, why companies use it, and how they benefit from it.

What are your thoughts?

The term 'AI' is, if not the most, one of the most buzz-worthy terms there is today. Anything that uses anything from a mildly complex algorithm to just some simple ones that have nothing to do with the subset of AI components, companies are gonna slap the AI sticker like what we saw in the flex tape meme commercial.

Check this out, this guy put a lot of effort on how to recognize 'AI' that is snake oil https://www.cs.princeton.edu/~arvindn/talks/MIT-STS-AI-snakeoil.pdf

Yeah, technology should be used only if there is a need. A lot of people hype their product using AI, ML keyword.

People literally have no idea what AI means and abuse the term - its actually ridiculous. Thats why if your trying to get funding or attract competent people to your site and use "AI" its a real turn off - to the point people involved in actual AI applications, don't even call it that anymore because of the negative connotation.

Yeah, that's true. It seems a bit oversaturated.

Did not know there was one, may have to look into it but also could be out of town.
