Confused about direction for website copy

We are working on a platform for freelancers that'll provide CRM, time tacking, invoicing and other features to help freelancers be more productive with their time and look more professional to their clients.

I launched the landing page last week with a free offering of time tracking (that's what we are building first). There has been a bit of traffic but no signups. I also included a link to our roadmap in the page to address 2 things...

  1. Show that we are completely free right now for a reason and how we plan to be financially viable
  2. Attract early adopters who are interested in our longer term vision but also have the need for what we are offering right now

We received feedback that opening up the roadmap will show that we are not focused on one problem. We want to build the platform in the open and hence I made it a point to showcase the first set of features that we are planning. So here are my questions...

  1. Is opening up the kind of roadmap we have good or does it show lack of focus?
  2. If you are a freelancer, is a free forever time tracking tool useful to you?
  3. Do you have any feedback on the landing page itself?

Here's the website - asmi.io.

Thank you so much for reading.

A really nice looking landing page. Great job!

    Hey Mahesh,

    1. I don't think there's anything wrong with being transparent about your future direction. That being said, I find the roadmap confusing and not easy to look at - which is in stark contrast to your beautiful landing page. I think you would be better served with just a simple graphic that shows the progression of the app. "Time Tracking > Account P&Ls > Sub contracting > Invoicing > Quotes & Proposals > The Ultimate Freelancing Tool - right on your desktop." We don't need to know the exact features yet, we just need to know that we should sign up to the newsletter if we want to get access to those other awesome use cases.

    2. I'm not really qualified to answer this question because I get paid by the project. If there's competitors in the space (Toggl), then that's a good sign.

    3. Like I mentioned earlier, I think the landing page looks great. I would only change two things: The Roadmap is one. And like I've mentioned many times in forum category, your features (free time tracking and time sheet generation) shouldn't be the product's benefit itself. Features are the logical reasons your product provides benefit. But they aren't the benefit your product provides in and of itself.

What do I mean by that? Well, you even mentioned it yourself. Using a product like this makes you appear more professional to your clients. This builds trust with your clients and may even justify an increase in pay. A product like this lets you focus on what your passion - your work - as opposed to fiddling around in a spreadsheet and scrutinizing hours. THESE are the benefits to your product; the pain points/desires your product provides - the emotional buy-in. And how does the product provide this benefit? The features.

Paint a picture first. Tackle the "why" (benefit), then talk about the "how" (features).

    Good luck.

Hi John. Thank you for your detailed reply...

      1. I wanted to validate if showcasing the roadmap makes sense or not, hence I just shared a Notion page. I'll definitely make it into a nice page once we figure out whether to keep it open or not (based on your reply, I'm leaning towards keeping it open)
      2. Yes, there are quite a few successful companies in this space
      3. Completely agree on the landing page copy problem. I've attempted to talk in terms of benefits/outcomes in the website of Asmi's previous incarnation (https://www.goldenhour.co, which I couldn't build because of technical constraints). I even got a decent list of 100+ signups for that project. Will definitely work on the copy
