Hey IndieHackers!
So this morning I got an email from Ahrefs for a mention alert of my brand (GG|) and I opened it to see something pretty frustrating (for multiple reasons)
This is what I saw 👇
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.com.samuramu.gg.sx&_branch_match_id=699598739502510548&utm_medium=marketing
this is the developer:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/dev?id=7811132908439056405
The Twitter handle for my product is @TheGGApp which could be wrongly associated with those two links which I definitely don't want.
I'm wondering if you think a re-brand might be worth doing. The name GG is definitely not unique enough to make SEO for the brand easy at all. There are lots of irrelevant things that come up when you search. A lot of users have also mentioned that my app is pretty hard to find in the app stores.
I have an idea for a name but it's very similar to the name of another product (in a different niche) so I'm not sure if maybe I should try to get their blessing to use the name or not.
What would you all do in this situation?
Yeh it seems like the obvious route to take at first glance. But then I saw your website, and I think you can make it work within the gaming niche, because the GG letters are pretty iconic in the gaming community. I personally wouldn't give it up :)
Thanks Andrei, not giving it up is probably the way to go for now. This definitely shouldn't be my main concern at the moment since I'm trying to officially launch premium subscriptions in the next week or so. :)
Yep makes sense, focus on the launch. Congrats, and good luck!
