Content vs Community - I am torn.

Storytime.
Finclout is an app where users can earn crypto by posting interesting insights.

Since the app is still quite new and there are not that many users on the app, we wanted to encourage users to post by providing a quite nice incentive for posting to users on the app. I.e., you could easily earn a dollar by just posting a link once or twice. But also for syndicating platform content through their social channels allowing for a larger social footprint.

This would allow us to

  1. Calibrate the recommendation algorithms,
2 . Understand how and what users post,
  2. Any problems in the UX/UI,
  3. Data issues, etc.

So far, so good.
We went into this experiment thinking that we are all grown-ups that understand how to behave in a community setting.

And it worked well for a couple of epochs until one day a new user joined the platform. And he seemed absolutely oblivious to the rules of the community.
Here you might ask. Are your community rules properly set?
Well, there are ToS and Platform rules that users need to accept, but also I had a 1:1 with him.

Then this happened. This user shared posts to his WhatsApp more than 100 times within a few minutes. Per rules, this makes him eligible for payouts but it makes for a bad impression to wherever he was posting this.

To avoid getting banned on other social platforms, we first informed the user that this behavior is not what we want, yet he didn't stop. So we had to remove the incentive from syndicating posts.

However, this didn't stop the user from posting a lot of content in a short time therefore aggregating shares in this way. So far we were happy with that since more content is more content. This helps us with the 4 points above. And the content was actually not bad at all. However, since the posting was done on such a massive wave in a short period of time, it de-motivated other users on the platform that post daily but did not post 30 times in a single day.

As a solution, we have now proposed to the community to change the share rewards from 10 shares per post to 10 shares per upvote. This allows better-received content to earn more.

What would you do in such a situation?
