Hey folks, I'm looking for some inspiration on how we can convert 100+ of our "early access" waitlist members into paying beta users.
For the context, we launched our startup - Paperstack.ca - a few weeks ago, and by way of social media and earned media efforts managed to get some ~100 people to drop their email onto our waitlist.
Many of them even went on to fill out a Typeform with a few questions, which helped us tremendously in understanding folks who got attracted to our product.
Now, we feel the time is right to let a few of "early access" members into the world of Oz, to try our product 😉.
For the context, a the app we are building automates bookkeeping for busy freelancers. Signup steps would include 1) creating an account, 2) linking debit & credit card, 3) then waiting a few days for the report to arrive into the inbox.
Some steps are still conducted manually, and might not be intuitive from the get-go - hence the hesitation to send out a blast email with signup instructions. And then there is a "link you credit card" component. We also intend to charge a small amount (~$40) for 2 months of bookkeeping automation, as a "paid pilot".
What are some of the creative cool tactics we could use to let in a few waitlist members, and onboard them as private beta clients in this situation?
Hi Vadim!
In your shoes, I would go through the list of the ~100 sign-ups and make a list of who would be your ideal private beta client(s). Maybe some of the sign-ups stand out because of how they filled out the Typeform or their size?
Once you've got this list of ideal clients, reach out to them personally to let them know of your plans for the private beta, what's in it for the client (even after the beta, maybe premium support? Or a fat discount for the first year after launch?), and ofcourse if they would like to participate.
I hope this helps!
Thank you for some ideas there, @Twan
We reached out to a few people trying to get them to book a call, but that didn't go anywhere.
Perhaps we weren't clear enough on the benefit to them as an "early access" client. Will try to mix it up over the next few days and report back! 🤓
I know the pain. People often think it's just another "book a demo" email. But indeed, mix it up and get creative with the personalization of the emails. Maybe even slide into their DM's on social.
Best of luck!
Some of them left a cell number... 😏
Can we possibly "text" them instead?
What would the message look like?
I did some research on waitlist/invites a couple weeks ago. We settled on Prefinery since they had a $199 lifetime deal on Appsumo. It's pretty solid.
It lets you build an opt-in waitlist with the ability to import an existing list of users. It also has built in referral tracking to encourage shares, which move users up on the waitlist.
Then it also has a user system to invite users from the waitlist. The lifetime Appsumo deal allows up to 10,000 users.
I recommend checking out their site and documentation since they have a few different ways to use the product, but I've been very happy with it.
