Coping with the emotional rollercoaster ride as an entrepreneur

Being an entrepreneur means you are riding a rollercoaster. It’s a constant up and down of different emotions. It’s easy to be on cloud nine one day and land on the hard floor the other day. There are so many things going on and I was only living for the moment.

When having a bad day I started questioning things and forgot about the good times. When were they actually I asked myself? I couldn’t find the answer as I forgot about them. Although there were just a couple of days ago. So I started journaling in a Google Sheet by putting one-sentence a day into it. Later on I added how I felt this day and what was the driving factor for it. By the end of this year I had quite a nice collection of different one-sentence stories.

I created different filter views to only see happy moments when I was feeling a little bit down or read through my rougher times when I was on cloud nine again. As this really helped me to appreciate the current situation much more I’m now thinking to bring this method to an app to help other people (or entrepreneurs).

I’ve put up a landing page to see if there is enough interest from other people. So feel free to check it out here: https://punktapp.me

I’m calling it “Punkt” as it’s the German/Austrian word for punctuation mark. The last thing when finishing a sentence. Punkt.

Hé @iPGregor, you sound like me some years ago. I also did some journaling in the past and decided to make an app for myself, and for others like me. https://mindwave.app

Because there are a lot of journaling apps (not to discourage you) I made mine specifically for entrepreneurial people. So you can document your journey and benefit from all journaling advantages (getting a calm, clear mind and managing stress and anxiety).

I'm happy to share my experience so far so you can benefit before building your PunktApp.
    Cheers

Hey @MarcelHagedoorn, Mindwave looks really cool. Is this just a web app? It makes sense if you target entrepreneurial people, as they are on the desktop anyway.

Would love to hear more insights about how you built Mindwave. That would be super helpful. Many thanks and best of luck for Mindwave!

Mindwave is a web app atm. Recently I made a Progressive Web App for Desktop usage. Next year probably a mobile app. But it wouldn't be a native one. To expensive to build and maintain. Especially if your early stage and expect a lot of development / changes.

You can read my journey here:

PM me via telegram @marcelhagedoorn for 1on1 feedback. happy to help!

That makes total sense. The website looks great already so should be possible to build upon that. If there is anything I can help you with, especially mobile UI or UX design I'm happy to help.

Will send you a message on Telegram. I really appreciate your help and support. Looking forward to chatting soon.

I've signed up. I, unfortunately, have really high highs and really low lows as a result of a brain injury. Similar to you, I've developed some tools for my low days.

Thanks for signing up! Would love to hear more about the tools you've developed. (If you want to share)

1.) I have a private WordPress and I save business related motivational quotes there because it's easy to scroll through quickly/easily on my phone.

2.) I have audio interventions around some "wouldn't it be cool" type statements. Such as "wouldn't it be cool if Lakebed were successful enough to hire single parents and allow them flexibility to be with their kids and/or attend school".

3.) I'm experimenting with injecting motivation into my physio/workouts. Instead of counting to 10 for example, I will read a motivating statement 10 times.

4.) I've learned not to push through low points or beat myself up because that prolongs them.

5.) Meditation and mindfulness is proving absolutely vital, at least twice a day.

6.) I find this site really helpful in contributing to others' ideas and knowing I'm not alone. I also find IH significantly less negative than general social media.

        So much fun...

To be honest, I love all of your points. Especially 2.) and 3.) are really new to me and awesome thoughts. Many thanks for sharing this with us. I'm sure this will help a lot of others as well.

PS.: Joined IH yesterday, but it's awesome so far. I've never expected so much great feedback, help and support. 🙏

The headline is in German. That seems confusing to me.

Oh sorry, there was an issue with the translation plugin on Wordpress. Should be fixed now, thanks for pointing that out.

That page looks neat. I started using an app called Daylio to track my moods every day. I can configure a notification to be pushed to me every day at 10am and that asks me how I rate my mood and to optionally add a note.
It helps me look back on the previous weeks and reflect on why I was feeling good/bad (no surprise, it was 100% correlated with how many customers I acquired that day 🙄).
That's the full extent of my usage for now.

Glad you like the page. Thanks for the info about scheduled notifications, that sounds really helpful. Are you able to directly interact with the notification?

Best of luck with your customer acquisition 👍
