Copywriting advice from David Ogilvy's right-hand copywriter, Mr. Drayton Bird:

This is a guest series authored by legendary copywriter, Mr. Drayton Bird.

He’s calling it his 10 Commandments for Copywriting Success — and they're yours, free.

Drayton Bird, of course, is the former Worldwide Creative Director at Ogilvy & Mather Direct.

He was so good at writing copy that the great David Ogilvy himself said: “Drayton Bird knows more about direct marketing than anyone in the world.”

Last year, I interviewed Drayton for my newsletter — and to my delight, we’ve been in touch ever since.

Eventually, I asked if he’d like to do a series for VGC:

“I’d be glad to,” he said — and in a few weeks delivered a 3,547-word copywriting masterclass, laden with advice and examples from his storied 60-year career working with some of the finest marketing and advertising minds in the world.

The series consists of 10 original, expertly crafted essays:

  1. Imagine your ideal prospect
  2. Do a complete selling job (part 1)
  3. Write to the ideal prospect
  4. Aim for relevant surprise
  5. Appeal to deep emotions
  6. Tell of disaster turned to triumph
  7. Don’t be a bore
  8. Make it clear and easy to read or follow
  9. Do a complete selling job (part 2)
  10. Search the world and steal from the best

Over the next 6 weeks, we’ll be drip-posting the series on LinkedIn, one essay at a time...

But — if you don't want to wait, getting early access to ALL 10 essays at once is easy:

Just follow the quick 'n easy 2-step instructions at the bottom of this LinkedIn post.

It will only take you about 10 seconds — and you'll have the entire series next week (instead of piecemeal over the next month and a half).

Enjoy!
