Copywriting for dummies

Copywriting is the process of creating effective text for marketing, advertising, or other purposes. It involves understanding the audience you're targeting, crafting engaging and persuasive content, and making sure that the message is delivered engagingly.

Copywriting can be important for businesses of all sizes. When it comes to marketing, an effective copy can help you reach your target audience and convert more leads into customers. AdWords and other advertising platforms can be incredibly effective when used by businesses with talented copywriters on their teams.

We help (X) do (Y) by doing (Z)

The above template is a great starting point but it just scratches the surface of what you need to be doing for an effective copy.

Before we go into tips to create good copywriting, we should always make sure that our audience is getting value out of our content by solving their problem.
Then you take the help of different human emotions to sell your product. You don’t need to be a psychology expert to do that, just being cognizant of these behaviors will be good enough to inspire you:

  1. Desire: Buyers want things that they want, and they want them now. Probably the easiest emotion to tap into, it only works when the user knows they want something, your only job is to nudge and make that sell that’s it.
A perfect example is your favorite burger joint.
    Imgur
It just triggers the desire for a fast burger that is it, it's the feeling of gluttony that does the heavy lifting on this ad.
Here is another one focusing on the SAAS model. Let me re-iterate if you know you have the product that your audience needs now, just nudge them with the desired triggers. This is the landing copy of an AI copywriter called WriterGenie which you can use to create your copies in minutes.

Why does the wording “Claim your free trial” so important here, it triggers the sense of want and urge.
I assure you, even you are using this trick right now, as it is so evident to us humans, we know others respond to greed and desires, that marketers everywhere instinctively focus on that.

  1. Fear: Humans are terrified of … well everything. So, they need reassurance, they want to feel safe, they want to feel in control. Make no mistake modern buyers are extremely smart and want to protect their financials. Our job is to make sure they know that we are looking out for them and it’s going to be alright.
    Imgur
In the previous example we saw a microcopy hidden under the CTA copy, its purpose is to ensure that the customers understand they don’t lose anything to click on the button above.
    Imgur
We see in the ad above, the website confirms that users won’t be in any trouble collecting their user data assuring them that everything is going to be alright.

  2. Belief: Buyers believe that they need a product to be successful, or they believe that they are not good enough without it. Again let’s look at the hotjar landing page.
    Imgur
This copy is based on your belief that you need to know about your user's behavior, and luckily they have a solution for it. Simple and effective.

  3. Social Norms: Buyers conform to social norms when making a purchase.
This is an easy one to crack “testimonials”.
    Imgur
If ever in doubt go with social proof. You need to showcase people are with your product.

Now, that you know the triggers first recognize your user and what will trigger them. It’s just easier if you imagine your fictional customer, something called Persona, it’s jargon you don’t need to learn. However, make sure you learn everything about your user and how you can provide them with something valuable. Then choose a trigger from above, that kernel of an idea in your head now is the basis of the copy you will create, expand on that, and be creative while doing so.

Copywriting tips that just works

Now, here are a few tips for effective copywriting for your next campaign after you expanded on your idea:

  1. Use keyword research to target your audience.
Knowing which keywords to target is essential for effective copywriting. By using keyword research, businesses can identify the keywords that are most relevant to their product and target those keywords in their content. This will help to increase traffic and sales.

  2. Write clear and concise content.
It’s important to keep your content concise and easy to read. This will help to draw in more readers and increase traffic to your website.

  3. Use images and videos to create an engaging story.
Images and videos can be an effective way to add visual interest to your content and increase viewership. By using images and videos that are relevant to your product, you can create an engaging story that will draw in more readers.

  4. Use social media to promote your content.
Social media is a great way to promote your content and reach a wider audience. By using social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter, you can share your content with a wider audience and drive more traffic to your website.

How to do copywriting without spending $$$

If you’re looking for a way to improve your copywriting skills without spending a fortune, consider using artificial intelligence (AI) copywriters. AI can help you produce high-quality, search engine-friendly content quickly and at a fraction of the cost of hiring a human writer.
Here are four ways AI can help you improve your copywriting:

  1. Automated Research: AI can help you identify the keywords and phrases your target audience is likely to search for. This information can help you write content that is both relevant and useful to your readers.
2.** Quick turnaround times**: AI copywriters can produce content quickly and with minimal editing. This saves you time and money and allows you to focus on more important tasks.
  2. Greater accuracy and consistency: AI copywriters are often more accurate than human writers. This means your content will be more persuasive and consistent across different platforms.
  3. Greater flexibility: AI copywriters can adapt their content to meet the specific needs of your target audience. This allows you to create content that is both unique and engaging. “Does not apply to every AI copywriter out there.”

Why custom AI copywriters will win in the long term

Remember Brand Recognition

Generic models of AI copywriting are based on a model that assumes that all customers are the same. This assumption is flawed, as customers can and do vary in their needs and want as we saw earlier. As a result, generic models can produce content that is not relevant to specific brands or customers.
Custom models of AI copywriting are based on the understanding that each customer is unique. This understanding allows for content that is specifically tailored to the needs of each customer. This approach results in greater brand recognition and a better understanding of the customer’s needs.
If you just want to try an AI copywriter or make your custom model you can check WriterGenie out. Heard great things about them :)

how do you measure this as an early stage (pre-launch) startup?

    1. 2

Determining a user's pain is the first task to do and then understanding what the user is buying, It may be time, leads, or just knowledge. Once the discovery of what they are buying is clear you can use any emotional trigger to target them, triggers are not mutually exclusive from each other.
