Hey there,
I have a startup idea focusing on the tourism market that I would like to have feedback on, to get some validation , or either disruption.
At this moment it is just an idea.
We would like to build a website/app that allows travellors to save up money for travelling. There would be some sort of reward / incentive system to help motivate , and build up their vacation funds. We are not planning to be any financial management firm or bank. This fund that they save up will allow them to directly make bookings from the site, including flights, accomodations, tourist attractions etc but at a fairly cheaper price, There too will be a social platform in the website that allows travellors to share photos , videos of the places they have been which allows them to recommend others and gives feedbacks .
What do you think, is this achievable?
I think you could build a landing page where people can leave their email addresses but also take a survey about specific needs while traveling or searching for traveling deals.
Hi gzebe,
This will be one of our vision for the MVP and Landing page.
Thank you for feedback
Hi Simon, this is a great idea especially for frequent travelers. While you get to book hotels / flights and your experience in other sites but saving to fund the trip will drive utilization and increase affinity to the platform.
One key challenge will be to attract people who could save in third party platform especially start up until there is a brand / security behind. You will have to think to overcome this challenge while working on this idea
Hi indiemember,
Yes , that is one of our biggest challenge that we will have to tackle.
Thank you for the feedback
What you're describing definitely sounds doable from a technical point of view. On paper, it makes sense to bundle the motivation to save, the act of planning, and the social side of traveling.
I don't travel very much at all so I am not your target customer. Do you know anyone who would be a target customer (someone who travels a lot on a budget)? Have you ran the idea by them? Better yet, rather than just ask them about the idea, ask them how they currently save up for travelling, how they book stuff, and how they share the experience. Try to identify problems and see what they've tried to do to solve it.
How would you allow them to book things for a cheaper price than the existing deal sites? This part seems like a big challenge to me.
The idea also sounds like a lot of work to build. You don't want to build the whole thing then find that it's hard to get people to use your solution. I would recommend focusing in on one key part of it. Whether it's the savings incentive system, the booking, or the social sharing. How you choose what to work on should be directed by what problems people tell you they have.
Hey Rywils21
Thank you very much for your feedback to my post, really appreciated that.
There will be alot of challenges that we will need to tackle.
Thanks again for the advise , will keep them in mind.
