Crazy idea for the front-page, make it a single full page video

Hello everyone, I'm working on my front-page, and it just occurred to me that I could cover the whole front-page space with a single video that shows my product. Anyone else done this? I could start with something very simple doing the video myself, see how users react and if people sign up, later I could have a professional video done. What do you guys think? Should I give this a try instead of doing the regular text page?

So where would people click to view more? I feel you need a call to action on your landing page...

We have a video on our landing page and have mixed experiences. Sure, it looks great, and since we're a stock video platform for drone footage it makes total sense to display some cool videos. Unfortunately I find that the first experience of our platform can be quite disappointing if you don't have great internet connection and the video doesn't play immediately or if it gets laggy.
It doesn't always play on mobile either so make sure that's covered if you decide to give it a go :)

I've seen this done really well in the Betterlance demo video (https://betterlance.co/) by @leylandjacob so I'd say give it a go. The best way to learn is via testing with your users, of course you also need to be aware of how much you invest into the video creation.

    All the best :)

Honestly, if the different sections (typically I look for How It Works, Team sections) are apparent enough then you could pull it off into a great landing page.

Also, something to consider: how do you handle the experience when the video has occasionally not loaded.

Snackpass (https://www.snackpass.co/) is a somewhat loosely related example where they play the video on the phone on the landing page while also highlighting the sections.

My first thought was "Television. You're thinking of a television." 😆

I think it's an interesting idea, and worth exploring, but keep in mind Andrew's comments about visitors being able to take action. Also, I'm not sure what SEO practices are for video, but it'd be worth looking into as well.

And this is just my personal preference, but I'm not sure how I'd feel about a fullscreen video appearing where I was expecting a website. Unless the video was very compelling, I'd probably navigate away more quickly than I would otherwise.

Really hard to put in a CTA and a place for them to take that action. Modals are fine. But please let someone stop the video and just read.

Agree on that. Unless it's just an "ambient" video with some clouds moving through the sky or similar, it will be too distracting and you will have a hard time directing visitors to your CTA.
