Create Slack Community For My Product! 📣

Hey everyone!

It's been a long time since I could make a new post on indiehackers! Last two weeks have been intense with the entire speed optimization we were doing for ruttl. But thanks to these 3 months of continuous efforts, ruttl is now 10x faster than before! We've reduced the page load time to 3-4 sec max!

Anyways, I wanted to share with everyone a new idea that I have implemented this week. Until now, I was building ruttl based on what I thought was best for the users.

Now, I have started going the other way. In order to learn more about what my users want specifically, I have created a new slack community where interested people can join to help me and my team suggest their ideas to improve the product.

Personally, I feel that this is the right approach to get connected with the users and to build a strong tribe who realizes the value of this product and finds it useful for design purposes!

What do you guys think about this idea?

Stay safe!

In case you are also interested in helping ruttl, I would encourage you to join the slack community through this link.

Does it have to be on slack? I am part of 5 groups and it is impossible for me to be active on these groups.

Can't you interview 1:1 and get the feedback you need?

It's possible surely but my team is bootstrapped on time and resources as well. That's why we choose to go with slack right now. The inactivity is an issue, I agree but we have an option to deploy a separate online community platform if that seems to feasible latter on.

Okay, I would still recommend that you have 1:1 conversations with users and try to pre-sell before going down the slack route for validation.

    Great initiative!
But maybe the slack community for the product could become a customer support channel if members start raising too much issues? How would you approach that in order to avoid it?

    1. 1

That's one of the primary reasons to start slack channel actually- to offer quick assistance to members who are facing issues. That way, our development team is also updated with all the pressing issues as soon as they go live.

Hopefully, if this idea works well, I might need to get 1-2 people to handle the community itself.

It's a great idea if your audience uses Slack. I set up a private Slack channel for my Gravity customers and about 95% of them join.

It's a great tool for me to be able to provide extra value through concierge onboarding and also learn about additional problems my customers have.

That's great to hear @kylegawley! Yeah even my target audience largely uses slack. Even discord is a good choice but I personally love slack!
