Creating a landing page and collecting emails

Hallo guys,

I might be pretty much ready to launch my first side project, so in spite of the fact that I have it clear in mind, I am starting from the landing page (as I have read around here).

I have seen several tools to build the landing page, but what service do you suggest to collect emails of interested people? Mailchimp? Sendgrid?

Thanks a lot for any help guys!

If you are ready to launch, why start with a landing page?
Usually people start with a landing page to gauge interest, and after gathering a big email list and talked to potential customers/users, they start building.

Hi, good point, but i have not been clear :)

I have the project ready in mind, had few talks with a partner in crime, but it's all to be done; it's a very small idea, and so, gauging interest is the first step.

Anyway thanks for your point !

        Check.
Biggest tip I can give is to start talking with your subs as soon as they sign up. Ask them questions, eg what is it they are gonna replace with your product/service. Other type of questions depend on the product/service you make.
Don't just send a mass email once you've launched and sell.

        1. 1

          Exactly !

It's not about measuring myself with the tech part, it's almost 20 years i do what i do.

I am very interested into the while trip, taking an idea to marketing stage.

And, of course, you'll hear once i'm there :)

Some landing page tools (here's a big list) include email collection like Unbounce. Another option is to embed a form with Mailchimp or one of the dozens of email tools out there.

My personal favorite stack is Jekyll for landing pages, Mailchimp for email collection, and Formspree for other forms/contact info.

      Thanks for the suggestions !

I'm a big fan of Product Hunt's Upcoming right now.

People spend way to much time thinking about their coming soon page, instead of getting started on building their project.

You can get your Upcoming page setup in about 2 minutes, and them move on the job of building your project.

It will put you into the middle of a community of early adopters and has very low friction for people to actually signup.

Unless you have a very specific idea for the landing page that Upcoming can't handle, that's what I'm using from now on.

The free tier is workable, and you can export the email addresses so there is no vendor lock-in.

    1. 2

there's a loooooong queue for the free tier though

      1. 2

You can probably still signup for the hackathon and skip the queue :)

          I never thanked you!

          I'm in 😉

    2. 2

      Fair enough ;-)

      Thanks

I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet, but try https://formspree.io/.
It's really fast to setup. You can use it to capture any form based data, not just email signups actually.
You can see an example of it in action here on my website: https://monsiv.com

carrd.co which is integrated with mailchimp. See my personal LP: www.kirillso.com

Hi @brunoripa, fancy meeting you here :)

What I've done till now is this:

    Good luck!

Hei mate, happy to catch you here !!!! Thanks for the advices :)

  7. 2

I've developed landingzone.io, which lets you capture email addresses by pointing your form to our servers.

It's just the email capture and verification part, so you can export emails as CSV/JSON and plug them into your provider of choice when you're ready - whether that's two weeks or two months from now.

Take a look and let me know your thoughts!

    1. 2

I just created a project - thanks for the tool, it's exactly what I was looking for.
I sent an idea your way... cheers!

    2. 2

I'll have a look at it, thanks !

Sendgrid, JotForm, and Wufoo are good services. I use send grid in my ExpressJS app.

Care to try out GrowSurf (https://growsurf.com) as your form?

When someone signs up to your site they'll immediately be provoked to share a referral link to their friends (you would have to offer an incentive like early access, 3 months free, etc)

    It's 100% free, and we'll always have a Forever Free plan :)

We always thought there should be a referral marketing service as part of your launch stack, just as you would typically integrate Google Analytics, HotJar from the get-go -- that's why we built this!

    May I suggest using https://www.strikingly.com/ .

    But a few things:
1 - I work for Strikingly as a marketing manager.
2 - I was a customer for years before working for them

Okay! Now into why you can use Strikingly for this email collection quest:

    1. THERE IS NO CODING NEEDED.
I hate coding. The most I will do is "https://...".
      That's it.
And I don't need anything fancy to collect emails. I just need it to look professional, get the persuasive copy right (the REAL hard part), and work.

Here's a mock landing page I made using Strikingly, Canva, and I used the images from Pexels -
    http://sheilasanimalhospital.strikingly.com/

    No code.

    1. EASY USER INTERFACE.
It's all drag and drop into place or a click of a button to add sections, or to modify a section to your liking.

    2. 24/7 CUSTOMER SERVICE.
It still blows my mind that some companies make you PAY to have a livechat session with a customer service representative. I've gone through the back and forth BS of emails with the Customer Rep, and it will take DAYS to resolve an issue. Strikingly's CS team (or Happiness Officers) are just about as popular as the product.

They're ready to live chat with you 24/7 and they are SUPER NICE!
They'll help you solve your problem in minutes. It's quite impressive actually...

Look, whether you use us or not - if you're unsure on how to create an effective landing page, check out this video series where we walk you through it - https://www.strikingly.com/how-to-build-a-landing-page-that-converts

I know this was sales-y, but no matter what, I hope this helps you out! Good luck!

    1. 1

Thanks, i still appreciate getting in touch with new stuff.

It's not going to be a problem for me to produce a landing page, but still good to know and suggest to people that might need it.

      Thanks !

      1. 1

That's really good to hear, mister!

You don't have to suggest it, if you don't want - haha! But now you have another option if you need it.

        Cheers man!

        1. 2

I have suggested several of the tools that i meet in this forum. I am happy to recognize values into product and pass the word around ;-)

          1. 1

            Well right on, bud. Cheers!

How much are you going to charge for the class? Also, what exactly is this going to cover? I'm assuming it's mostly typography for the web? Correct?
