Creating a short promotional video - is it worth it? Any examples?
I’m considering the idea of creating a short video tutorial to show the main features of the product, and then use it as a promotional content (e.g. in Reddit). It would be like a screen record, where you only see the platform and the mouse cursor, while I do a quick walkthrough and explain it.
My guess is that in general people are lazy and would rather watch a <2 min video than click on a link to open the website, enter a password and try it out.
I’d like to make it short, but I’m not sure how to make it appealing.
Do you have experience creating this kind video? Did it convert/was it useful somehow? Any best practices to follow?
Yes, you should. I'd keep it raw like you're planning on doing.
Have maybe your face showing in the corner or something.
You can use it on your home pages, tutorials, even paid ads.
Personal opinion - they're better than the animated or high production ones.
Big tip: don't talk about the feature. Your customers most likely don't care about the feature. Talk about the pain point and how your platform (feature) solves it.

I highly recommend a video. You are right, people are more likely to watch than read. I used Toonly to create this video (https://youtu.be/fchshufnXgQ) about my product, it took a day or two. I've had great responses to it.

I have a podcasting / marketing company as well (https://getaword.in/), so I have a pro setup. Yes, I did the voiceover.
You can find decent voiceover artists on Fiverr for pretty cheap. So, I would start with a solid script. Use Toonly to create the animation with your own temporary narration, and then find a contractor to do the voiceover for you.
