Instagram releases Trial Reels

Instagram is rolling out the new feature “Trial Reels.”
The new feature lets creators post a reel exclusively to their non-followers so that they can try out and test new content.
Trial Reels could give Instagram a leg up on TikTok, which doesn’t currently have a similar feature.
One of the most annoying things about being a content creator is getting pigeonholed into a particular niche. Sure, you love your main thing, but what if you want to discuss something else? Or make a video in a different style? Right now, the odds are you won’t because of the engagement hit.
Instagram is now trying to fix that with the release of “Trial Reels.”
The feature does pretty much what you’d expect: let’s you share a reel exclusively with people who don’t follow you. Then, if you feel good about how the reel is performing, you can share it with your followers.
As Instagram puts it, the clear benefit here is the ability to “try out a new genre, storytelling format or topic” without the pressure of pleasing your audience.
Posting a Trial Reel is very simple. You do everything as you would if you were posting a Reel, except you toggle on “Trial” right before you post.
Besides being useful in it’s own right, the feature is also interesting because TikTok does not currently have something similar. In the tight war between the two, any little feature can make the difference, making it worthwhile to see how the reaction of creators as it rolls out globally over the next few weeks.
