A chrome extension that allows you to share a "link " with someone through the mail (USPS).
It costs 99cents to send someone a link (can be 12 pages long). And will be delivered in about 2 days.
I am thinking to expand to include easily sending a "Facebook Album" to someone by using a similar extension. (Costs 99 cents per photo)
My target is kids of people who still like to receive stuff in the mail. (You can return and we will recycle the paper) Also, you can mail stuff to yourself, we will spend some time making sure that popular content sites (Medium, HN, wordpress_blogs etc) are rendered beautifully into letters.
Is the chrome extension the right route to do this? Or should it be a site that you sign up to (add some people and their addresses) and then when you visit you drop the link, it renders the "letter" and then you choose who to send it to.
Please let me know! Also, register @ asyncsharing.com for early access.
I quite like this idea - my gf recently printed and wrapped a long article she thought I would be interested in as a gift. She could have just shared it on Facebook/WhatsApp but it was really nice to receive it that way.
I think the market doesn't necessarily have to be restricted to older people, I think lots of people like receiving letters rather than emails.
A chrome extension seems sensible to me for reducing friction, as well as the product being an option for sharing on mobile.
One criticism I have is the name; the word async to me is associated with programming and I would rarely use it (or even "asynchronous") outside of that context and the name doesn't say anything about the fact that you are sending letters. It's a techy sounding name where I don't think it makes too much sense to have one.
Also, the landing page needs some work on mobile.
Best of luck with the idea!
