Cross-promoting Gumroad products for bonus revenue

Hi IH,

I recently made a post asking whether IHers selling products on Gumroad were looking for affiliates and received a number of responses: https://www.indiehackers.com/post/find-affiliates-for-your-gumroad-product-00ace4e64c?commentId=-MIeMGem4SoFXu-LbzLd

Looking through these responses, there were a couple of common product categories (e.g. design resources, technology guides, etc.).

This got me thinking, would you promote someone else's Gumroad product to your own paid customers?

For example, after someone has purchased your design resources, would you then be open to redirecting them to someone else's illustrations product on Gumroad?

Redirecting or showing your paid customers relevant products (even if they aren't yours) could be a great bonus revenue source (with many of the responses on my last post offering up to 50% affiliate commission!)

Would love to hear your thoughts 😊

I did it once, and made $5,500 in affiliate fees from a single email to about 3,000 customers. It was for a book related to the product I sold, and obviously I also really liked it.

I'm always extremely careful promoting affiliates (I've only done it twice; the other instance is very recent and no concrete results yet), but if done right I think many people appreciate the recommendation. Several people replied to thank me for brining the product to their attention, and almost nobody unsubscribed. But I think it has to be done right, and with the right product.

That’s super inspiring! And completely agree on the importance of screening/curating.

How did you come across the related product?
Was it something you had used/purchased previously or had the founder reached out to you directly?

The creator had talked to me a few times while creating the product, asking me some questions. I can’t remember if it was me who asked for the affiliate, but we agreed to send my email 3 days after the launch (do that not to compete with organic sales from the launch).

Yes, if it's relevant and I personally use it/like it.

If the product is relevant to my audience (and vice versa). Happy to do so!

Do you see any products out there that VenturesList's audience could be helpful?
