Crossed $400 MRR with my product. But the journey was long!

Hey guys! It's been quite a while since I wrote on Indie Hackers.

Mainly because I was pretty busy juggling hats as a content creator & as a SaaS founder

I just crossed $400 MRR today 🥳

To give you some context, I'm working as a solopreneur on Famewall which helps you collect testimonials & display social proof in multiple ways to increase your website conversions

This was one of the 2 SaaS products I launched last year. And after 7 months of working on the product and after having quit my job, today I crossed $400 MRR

But the growth wasn't fast like most SaaS startups. I come from a developer background and marketing was something new to me. Fun fact: I'm an introvert too!

I've been improving my copywriting & storytelling skills for almost a year by writing online on Twitter every day

Have also been learning from a lot of marketers to get the hang of it (I'm still trying 😅)

Building an audience on Twitter has greatly boosted my confidence and also brought in paying customers as they liked my journey building in public

I wrote this post because I had a rough phase as a solopreneur back in January. My imposter syndrome shot up so much & I was pretty stressed due to a few family issues.

I started a Youtube channel to document everything & tended to my creator side to take time off. In the beginning, it took a lot of my time as I was solely shooting the video & doing the edits as well. One of the videos took 2 days to edit 😅

But then I realized that I started enjoying it. (Excuse me for my beginner-level videos 😂)

With this newfound energy, I went on to build my business and got to a point where I'm getting 2x the sales in a week than I used to before.

If you're someone currently building and growing your business, just know that things take time. You never know when you'd hit the tipping point.

If you can generate $100 in revenue you can definitely scale it to $1,000 and beyond. It's only a matter of finding the right set of features & the right audience

If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer them :)

Congratulations! You've crossed the hardest part of starting a business. This is where most people fail, so a big pat on your back.

It may be helpful for the community if you can also share as a post, the things you did you get to that initial MRR.

Thank you so much for the kind words, Chris 🤩

Sure, I'm already writing everything I do to grow my business on my newsletter

Apart from this, I plan to explain it fully in a Youtube video

      Thanks for the suggestion :)

Great work! sometimes success does take long but you need to keep pushing and learn new things. Also for an introvert being active on multiple social media platforms, you've done a great job.

In order to promote my feedback tool ruttl, I too had to expand my marketing efforts across various channels, develop my blog writing skills, and master SEO strategies - all of which were completely unfamiliar to me. However, the experience has been extremely rewarding.

All the best on your journey!

Amazing how you've mastered so many skills, Harsh. Wish you the best as well.

I'm actually curious to learn about your SEO strategy as that's something I've also been working on lately

Congratulations man! Been following famewall for a bit :)

      Thank you Yahia :)

    Congrats! That's amazing!!

I'm going thorugh something similar, it was refreshing to be reminded that other people also struggle with content creation (in my case I'm trying out tik tok videos), but that it's so important to keep at it.

I am also interested to know how you decide what topics to cover on your content, and if you have pivoted at all since you started?

    1. 2

Hey Marin. Thank you very much.

Haha yeah I'm still experimenting with content and haven't hit traction with video form content. Currently I'm trying to condense my learnings into a short 30 second clip for Reels & Youtube Shorts

Congratulations, looks like a good product!

Amazing progress, Goutham! Congrats on the $400 MRR milestone 🎉

      Thank you Miguel 🤩

  7. 2

Thank you for sharing and congratulations on this milestone! It's inspiring to see your progress. How did you come up with new Twitter posts (especially in the beginning)? What worked and what didn't?

    1. 1

Thank you Max. It's interesting you brought this up. I exactly planned to write everything in detail on a Notion guide as to how I grew on Twitter - post on Twitter

Would you like me to share it with you once I complete?

      1. 2

        Yes, would be great! :)

  8. 2

Congrats! Just proves that good things come to those who consistently put in the hard work

Just curious though, what did you do for marketing?

We got $400+ MRR for Evoke by the third month. It really helps to have it posted on a lot of directories or integrated with other things like wordpress and the like.

    1. 1

Oh I did post it in a few directories in the beginning but it didn't cause a dramatic increase in revenue

So currently most of the traffic is coming from Twitter & content marketing

But what would you suggest Richard?

  9. 2

For an introvert, you have done an amazing job at marketing the product so far, congratulations 👏

Your target audience could be web developers, web design agencies as well who perhaps can upsell your product to their existing client base without making too much effort. All you need is a bit of a push now 💪

    1. 1

Interesting point. But wouldn't web design agencies & web developers prefer to roll out their own solution?

      1. 2

My experience is that most of them would rather sell stuff that works and just upmark the price, that way just earning the profit without having to do actual bug fixing and support.

A few of my friends running these went from doing all the work themselves to just selling stuff 100% of the time. That allows them to scale beyond what they would be able to if they focused on building every little plugin.

        1. 2

          Noted. Thanks for elaborating :)

  10. 2

    Congratulations!

      Thank you Muhammad :)

Hey, we've chatted a bit on Twitter I believe.

Good to hear . Keep going :-)
