Crossed 700 subs, started 123 days ago.

Averaging 5.6 subs a day.

Of course, it is more like 1-2 a day and then periods of faster growth.

The fastest growth usually happens when I write about something topically interesting.

damn I wish my newsletter could find an audience

    1. 1

what are you writing about? And how have you tried sharing it?

  2. 2

What is the main strategy you use, apart from Twitter, to achieve such amazing results?

    1. 1

I try to make each article so valuable you would want to share or save it.

I don't do just 'link dumps' or 'here is the news!' I try to learn and explain something valuable that you can use to make your work/life better.

Then it is just telling people about it.

  3. 2

What do you consider "topically interesting" versus not?

    1. 1

A deep dive into a specific technology is useful, but not topically interesting.

I wrote a post about ChatGPT the day after it came out and everyone was talking about it. That was topically interesting.

It is a balancing act because you have actually build value and do the deep work of expertise, but then also write about what others want to read about.

      1. 2

Agree. I didn't know if you plan your posts or what constitutes topically interesting since it changes by the day.

        1. 1

I plan my posts a few days in advance. But sometimes that changed based big movements.

I have a giant list of topics that I am always adding to.

  4. 2

Nice, what are you doing to gain exposure? My newsletter is at interessant3.substack.com

    1. 1

I mostly reply to Twitter conversations about topics I have written about. Tried 2 threads, neither worked so far. :)

      1. 1

That’s a great shout. I’ve been mentioning mine in other Substack newsletters but don’t want to spam and would like to increase my sources.

        1. 1

Yes. I only mention my newsletter in other newsletter comments IF I have a huge add.

Like they say something like 'I wrote about A, you should also know about B' I will chime in saying 'I wrote about B here, good addition to A etc'

I saw some days ago you also tried reddit is that good for newsletter sign ups?

    1. 1

I get a few signups from Reddit. 17 to be exact. So I don't focus on it too much, mostly talk to people on Twitter.

      1. 1

Interesting. Reddit seems to be hit and miss for a lot of people. I think a lot has to do with timing and a bit of luck!

        1. 2

Totally. I just need to share more and I will have a hit eventually.

  6. 1

How many hours do you spend on Twitter daily? BTW, what is your Twitter account? Let's connect.

    1. 1

I spent probably 45 minutes on Twitter a day. Which seems like a lot but I get lots of knowledge from others there.
