Cruise can now charge for driverless robotaxi rides in San Francisco

I've not ridden in one. I don't think I would for another couple of years. I'll let them work out some more of the bugs :)

The real game-changer with this technology is its applications for moving freight. We've seen this year how troublesome a workforce can be for logistics, automation might solve some of those challenges in the decades ahead.

"Cruise will be operating its passenger service at a maximum speed of 30 miles per hour between the hours of 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. on select streets in San Francisco, adding another one and a half hours to its current service. The company will need additional state regulatory approval to charge members of the public for driverless rides in the rest of the city, according to a Cruise spokesperson. These preconditions come as part of Cruise’s “passenger safety plan” that limits the service to overnight hours and doesn’t include the city’s dense urban core, according to the CPUC’s draft resolution."

Pretty amazing to see. Another thing to note is that it hasn't been without problems.

Just last week, a Cruise vehicle blocked a fire truck responding to an emergency, costing first responders valuable time.

Have any IHers ridden in a fully-autonomous vehicle? What was it like? It still kind of freaks me out but I'd give it a shot :)
