A while back I was emailing back and forth with @kaxline about our Indie Hacker adventures and he said something that's really stuck with me:
I think I need to cultivate more of a foraging mentality. ... Very hard to do though because of how the brain attaches to certain ideas of how things will go.
A "foraging mentality" strikes me as a great way to think about it. Success is not a binary condition, it's a spectrum.
An example: you sell one subscription over two months. The mind that has attached itself to a certain idea of success says "this is a failed business". The foraging mentality says "yay, I found a gold nugget!"
Thanks for the shout out! It's hard to pull back expectations and a desire for how things should go, but whenever I've been able to do it, I see opportunities that I was previously blinded to. Lots of success is made available to you on a daily basis, but it's probably not in the form or of the type you were expecting.
I like to seek the positives in life, focusing on progress, little things that move the needles.
My husband on the other hand... 🤣... we're good at different things, which is why we've probably worked well together over the years.
