Customer development interview questions

Hey, sharing some of my findings after extended research about customer discovery interviews. Perhaps that would be helpful for somebody.

Intro:

  1. Why did you agree to be interviewed in the first place?
  2. How long have you been in the industry?
  3. How many people in the company?
  4. What are your current company priorities?
  5. Are there any metrics you can share in terms of order volume, monthly sales, growth percentage, etc.?
  6. What about metrics like monthly website traffic, conversion rate, bounce rate, average order value?
  7. What are the key challenges now? (Financial? People? Regulatory? Competition? Technology? Customer retention? Conversion rate?)

Short version:

  1. What are the biggest challenges when it comes to XXX?
  2. Have you tried anything to solve [CHALLENGE]? How did it go?
  3. If we had a perfect solution to solve [CHALLENGE], what would be the process for us to work together?
  4. Anything else I should've asked, but haven't?
  5. Who else has the same challenges that you have?

Long version:

  1. What are some of the most effective ways that you XXX?
  2. On a 1 to 5 scale, how satisfied are you with them?
  3. What about tool XXX?
  4. What are the biggest challenges when it comes to XXX?
  5. What's the thing that's lacking the whole XXX?
  6. Any other challenges in terms of XXX?
  7. Which is the hardest challenge?
  8. What's the hardest part of this challenge?
  9. When was the last time you tried to solve this problem?
  10. Why is this a problem for you?
  11. What's the current solution?
  12. How did you hear about the solution?
  13. Is the current solution good enough?
  14. What was not good with them? What do you wish would work better? What problems does the current solution cause you?
  15. What about other solutions have you tried?
  16. Are you actively looking for some solutions?
  17. If you could wave a magic wand and have this problem solved, how would that look?
  18. What are the benefits of using XXX tools?
  19. How much revenue growth/increase of CR/decrease of BR) has been achieved through XXX?

  11. How do you feel about paying that way?
