How I got a 42% open rate on my first email campaign, with no previous email marketing experience.

How I got a 42% open rate on my first email campaign, with no previous email marketing experience.

  1. Identify your target audience and know how they talk, what issues they're facing & how you can help them.

  2. Create an email subject that catches their attention whilst also making it personal

  3. Keep the email copy brief, make it informal and friendly whilst asking them for a response if they'd like to hear more. The idea here is that they shouldn't be able to tell that the email was sent to thousands of people and not just them.

Those are the 3 main things I focused on when creating my first ever email campaign. What are your best tips?

How is it not obvious that your email was sent in mass? Are you not including an address or unsubscribe link..?

Where do you get the email addresses from? Landing page or have them collected through your app/service?

Curious to know, out of those opens, how many converted? And what was that conversion (signup, paid, etc...)?

Out of the opens, 6.6% of them registered on the website and out of those, 3%% have now paid for a subscription. I'm trying to find ways to increase this conversion and have made changes already since the start of the campaign which are making a noticeable difference.

Also worth noting that i'm getting a large amount of responses per day, close to 15% of the opens. Which then leads to an automated template response (with delay) based on the keywords they used to ask questions.

Those conversions seem quite low to me but i'm not experienced enough to say for sure. Nevertheless my ROI on the campaign has been positive.
