    August

    Book meetings with prospects

    Today

Sent a cold email campaign to ~40 people after many hours of prospecting, personalization and research.

Got several replies but no meetings booked :(

This really ruined my mood because I feel like I've tried it all

    1. 1

Don't let the drill get you down! Replies are fab! Any valuable feedback?

    BREAKDOWN

Week 1: Tools week - I've got several additional tools in mind, I'm going to try to get at least two of them completed by the 8th. I'm also going to be fixing a couple of issues I've noticed with the current tools. I'll also add client side input validation, I'm only doing server side validation right now.

Week 2: Writing Week: Troubleshooting flow-chart and/or checklist, a couple of articles for the notes section

Week 3: Do some basic SEO, keywords, sitemaps, etc. More tools work or writing as time allows.

Week 4: Finalize the look and feel of the website, any design changes should be minor at this point. Explore some of the paid ideas I've been kicking around.

    SATURDAY NIGHT

I didn't work on new tools as planned, but I still got a lot done

    • Modified the Subnet Calculator to not report address type. I'll revisit this after my PR goes through (or the good folks at the python project come up with a different solution).
    • Started moving Tools to a sub-directory

    SUNDAY

    • Lots of refactoring and modified Jinja templates to make better use of inheritance. I think the code is now structured in a way that will make it easy to add new features moving forward.
    • Tools can now be run without JavaScript (although JS still provides the best experience). This was done both for feel good and SEO purposes. Prior to this change you couldn't even navigate to them without JS.
    • New homepage that highlights both the Notes and Tools section of the site, formally users just got dropped off on the Tools page.
    • CSS changes for both mobile and desktop

    TONIGHT

I haven't really been sticking with the original plan for week 1, but I've got pretty decent momentum going so I'll probably just stick with what I've been doing.

    • This morning I decided to check out the site in IE on my work computer. For some reason my logos don't render in IE (a quick search tells me IE 9-11 has problems with scaling SVGs). I need to fix that and add IE testing to my preprod workflow.
    • Make a dynamic sitemap.xml and add metatags to all pages
    • Start working on the DNS Propogation checker

Ahoy MATEY! Having all the kids around all the time has been consuming! Last 5 days have been a whirlwind of prep and travel and catching up on odds and ends in work and home life.

I missed my July Epic goal but that's OK, I kept adding things in the back half of the month. Going to spend the morning putting together a reachable plan for this month, taking into account some mid-month scrambling I know is coming up!

      1. 1

What up, buddy! Miss your ass around this parts! Look forward to the epic reveal soon!

    2. 2

You mentioned a few days ago that you don't do the editing yourself...

I'm thinking about trying that out too. Is your editor looking for more work? :)

      1. 1

I'm guessing that she only edits the film she shoots. But it never hurts to ask!

        1. 1

Thanks! Might reach out in a few weeks :)
