What did you do yesterday to work towards your goal?

Set up a CloudFormation IAM definition for a user with MFA-enabled sysadmin privileges
Set up a CloudFormation key/secret generation

What will you do today?

  • Set up a CloudFormation EC2 definition for the compute layer, with NAT traversal, autoscaling groups, and load balancing
  • Set up a CloudFormation EBS volume to scale out the data layer
  • Set up a CloudFormation EFS volume for static files to be served
  • Set up a CloudFormation ECS definition for the container orchestration layer, with service / task / cluster definitions, and auto-pulling from ECR
  • Set up CI/CD pipelines for test and production deploys with AWS CodeBuild and AWS CodePipeline

    RescueTime statistics: 7h 36m (80% productive)

    Got really in the weeds here and started looking up how to implement VPC and subnet definitions in a CloudFormation template to avoid bash scripting. Really painful stuff.

    I think I do have the ability to ship quickly, it's just that this is more of a learning thing. I think companies are 1-5% tech execution and the rest non-technical work and I think it's just if I want to start a company in the future I don't want to get clobbered by the easiest thing on the menu.
