Day 22 of building my first mac app

allow me to introduce myself.

i'm arun, i’m a brand designer and founder, obsessed with how brands transform businesses. for years, I’ve been the design/marketing/brand nerd in the room. i've always wanted to build tools & software, but never had enough training. as a kid, i loved c++ and html, but college nudged me toward design, and I never looked back.

until ai and agents changed the game. now, that old dream finally feels reachable. i’m building, not just designing. and my first step has been to build tools i've always wanted. and that's how i got to building reverscan.

what reverscan does is simple. it helps designers find their files easily. being a designer for 15+ years, i made this so that i can find my files faster. it's very common in my industry for clients to come back months or years later and ask for edits. most times they will send just screenshots without any file names. and i would waste hours looking for these files.

one day, i looked at google reverse image search and wondered why don't we have something like this that runs locally on my machine? and that's how reverscan was born. now all i need to do is drop in that screenshot into reverscan and it finds the original for me.

first the name,
it went through quite a few iterations, it was called 'filetrace', then 'findmyfile', before finally landing at 'reverscan'. it means two things:

a) reverse + scan (or search): because we provide local reverse image search
b) revere (deep respect) + scan (see carefully): because your work deserves care and respect

on day 11, i launched on producthunt with hardly any traction (we had 4 upvotes).

on day 13, i got my first user.

ever since my entire focus has been on marketing this product on reddit, x, free product directors etc.

but what i am slowly realising is that i might have built a super niche product that a lot of people don't need.

so now i am adding a few more features into my core product and gearing up for a re-launch and that's where we are today. i've been sick for the last few days so the progress has been slow (not zero).

having said that, i'm glad to be here. i've been on a few threads and just been amazed by the quality of conversations here, and just being around other builders just trying their best to make it happen feels very supportive.
