    Today was good.

โœ… Built out more of the podcast part of my site and integrated their topic tags with my screecasts (example here)

โœ… Embedded a second podcast with audio and transcript. It's more text than any other page on the site!

โœ… Recorded 1/2 my next screencast

โœ… Created IH product pages for both my Learning Machine and Code and Bootstrapping podcasts. There's a lot to fill out though, so I only wrote a couple of updates for each. I'll try to add more this week.

โš—๏ธ Tomorrow, I'll finish my next screencast recording, and add at least one more podcast transcript to the site.

        Thanks for the tip!

As for social media, itโ€™s only very recently that Iโ€™ve taken this shotgun approach, so itโ€™s too early to tell just how well itโ€™s working. Iโ€™m not sharing to specific communities, though thatโ€™s something I should explore more (especially with Facebook where nobody sees what you just share to your page). Posting to reddit Iโ€™m sharing to specific subreddits in my niche, and itโ€™s the same for 9Gag, or DeviantArt...but I need to do more exploration on these platforms and learn how to best engage with other communities.

          1. 2

Yup! I think if you can find that subreddit that really will appreciate what you have to offer, growth will come. Rather than those who are just posting just to post for anyone to see.

    1. 1

Oh no :( Would you make a post on IH saying what you are looking for, links to portfolio of some sort, location, etc? We can then try sharing?

      1. 1

posted on IH and tagged you

    2. 1

Oh, no! That does not sound good. Did you lose it today?
Do you have savings? Well, figuring out what to do next is most important.
I wish you all the best.

      1. 2

yeah today. not too much saving. I can only survive for 2/3 months.

Do you know anyone is looking for php/laravel/reactjs developer?

            1. 2

No, I don't at the moment. But, if you have a twitter account, and you write that you are looking for a new position as php/laravel/reactjs developer, and ask for people to retweet, I am sure they will. Also, add hashtag #indiehackers. It will get retweeted there.

I surely can retweet it too. Twitter often works great for this.

Yeah, I actually went to a breakfast networking event on Monday. I like it because the people who attended was serious since it was so early. Still, I lean towards groups that are more purpose or task-centric than networking for network sake.

Right now, I'm focusing on my network. I've been heads down for too long. So it's due time to check-in w/ folks & sees how's life been treating them. Kindness goes a long way.

For the short-term though, I'm quick to ask for advice. Genuine advice seeking tends to invite intros. Also, check your office for old business cards laying around. Find them on LinkedIn and go from there. Have you attended any conferences, workshops, webinars or courses in the past year? That's another set of folks you can reconnect with.

Gotcha. @jas_hothi what are some of the groups/organizations your favorite industry experts following? Also, you can ask hosts of private groups/association to recommend groups, esp if you don't qualify or fit their membership. You'll be surprised at the # of groups that don't advertise.

    Floom (https://floom.app)
The easiest way to monetize SaaS products

โœ… What did you do yesterday?
Yesterday wasn't great. I worked on a pitch deck but struggled to find the best story to tell investors.

    ๐Ÿ† Yesterdayโ€™s results
But, we did get our first order! This product (https://market.floom.app/wavve-templates)

๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™€๏ธ What are you doing today?

    • Starting work on a new service
  15. 1

โœ… YESTERDAY I finished v1 of the new "top milestones" newsletter, tweeted out a screenshot, and enabled the newsletter for new signups.

๐Ÿ† RESULTS were that so far 60 people have gotten the new email!

๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™€๏ธ TODAY I'm going to wire up some instrumentation to measure how much traffic is actually coming from the new newsletter. Can't just blindly assume that it's a good thing that will automatically work well and be useful to people. And I'd rather not send email unless it works really well.

  16. 1

โœ… Yesterday I worked on a dating app all day that's going to be launched in the next couple weeks. We actually are in the process of planning an event now, kinda exciting!

Also set up our goals for Pulse Metrics for the rest of the summer, now we just gotta get users...

๐Ÿ† Welp kinda the same as above. Also built a landing page for the app and set up a portal for signups.

๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™€๏ธ Today I'm going to start reaching out to businesses that need technical help (trucking today!) in hopes of working with them more in the future. Also helping a new coworker get up to speed on communities to join so that we can understand more about the web and mobile analytics landscape for Pulse. Hopefully getting in touch with some dev shops and marketing agencies to partner with Pulse for the future (today will simply be figuring out WHERE to find those people)

Hey looks interesting, how do you differ from some of the other Django Cookiecutter projects?

      1. 1

        Thanks @hamishirving!

I'm not sure which specific projects you're referring to, but the key differences I see between this project today and the open-source ones that I was able to find are:

        1. A much higher attention to detail on UI polish. Most of the others I found either had virtually zero UI or a very generic UI.
        2. A modern front end build pipeline. Again - most of the tools I found neglected a JS/CSS build pipeline in favor of doing things in pure django templates.
        3. Fully built end-to-end examples to work from. Again - I think most other projects assume a lot of django knowledge/context and just lay things out for you while Pegasus aims to give you a set of working examples that you can easily modify to drop into your application.
        4. Working Stripe integration. The ones I found that claimed stripe integration had issues getting setup.

More generally, I think there's a key philosophical difference between a premium-style thing that you pay for versus open source. As the maintainer of something that people are (theoretically) paying for - I have a much higher incentive to be hyper-responsive, fix issues that arise, keep everything up to date, and continue to add features over time. Whereas the open source model (which I love and am not critiquing) more commonly has people throw something over the wall and then for the most support is "best effort". So I'm trying to attract people who don't want to wrestle with running into build issues, dealing with out of date libraries, etc. and just want something that works and works well.

        Hope that makes sense!

        1. 1

Makes a lot of sense thanks! I think the benefit of having someone to support the project is a big benefit over open source, not sure I saw that mentioned anywhere on your site though? ๐Ÿ˜‰

          1. 1

Ha! Fair point - I should definitely add that somewhere!

  20. 1

    Project: flowist.io
    Goal: Deliver the MVP

    โœ… What I did yesterday:
Wrote the backend for a user's projects and wrote tests to ensure authorization was in place. Also updated my landing page copy to see if I liked it better!

    ๐Ÿ† Yesterdayโ€™s results
Got some interest in the landing page and might have a first user (when I deliver the MVP)

๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™€๏ธ What are you doing today?
Write the rest of the backend, and finish authorization. Maybe update my landing page copy again?? haha.
