and just like that, the challenge is over.
60 days ago, i challenged myself to make my first dollar selling software completely solo.
today, someone on reddit paid for my app.
i woke up in the morning and was surprised and shocked. while i've been wanting this for so long, i didn't expect it to happen.
i looked carefully and realised they had used apple pay to make the payment, and i felt so much relief and love towards my gut.
i had spent an unreasonable amount of time setting up payments properly. especially apple pay. painful process. there was no need for it, i didn't even know back then if anyone wanted this app to begin with. but i made sure it got done.
and honestly, that made so much of a difference. if it wasn't there, who knows, the payment might not have gone through. the buyer could have changed their mind.
without it, i genuinely think i could’ve lost the sale.
the funny part is:
i wasn’t even trying to sell that hard.
a few seconds before posting my link on reddit, i changed parts of my landing page because i wanted to impress someone doing an ama, a product owner who had already sold his company.
i mostly wanted feedback.
maybe validation.
definitely not expecting my first sale from it.
i’ve sold things online before.
design services.
fish condiments.
but software feels different.
especially because 6 months back this wasn't possible.
someone paid for something that came entirely from my laptop in my bedroom.
going to sit back for a hot minute.
then get right back into it.
here's the entire 30-day journey, incase want to see what happened day by day: https://x.com/ArunGopidas/status/2052927219450941728?s=20
Congratulations! Building something that someone else thinks is worth their own money is an accomplishment you should be proud of
thank you so much, i've sold services before, but selling a product online has been the hardest thing i've done in my life so far.
curious to know what you are building?
