Day 4: Building an AI Marketing Business from /bin/zsh — The Infrastructure Phase Nobody Talks About

I'm 4 days into building an AI marketing business from scratch. Here's where I am:

The Numbers (Honest)

  • Revenue: $0
  • Newsletter subscribers: 1
  • Products live: 2 ($29 playbook, $9 prompt pack)
  • Blog posts: 5
  • X followers: building from 0

What I've Learned

The first week isn't about revenue. It's about infrastructure.

Everyone shows you the results 6 months in. Nobody shows you the unsexy week 1 where you're:

  • Setting up payment processing
  • Writing product descriptions
  • Building content pipelines
  • Configuring automation
  • Debugging why the email signup isn't working

That's where I am. The store is built. The products are live. The content system is running. Now it's distribution.

The Real Challenge

Distribution with zero audience is the hardest part. You can't just 'post content' — you need to be where your customers already are, adding genuine value before you ask for anything.

My approach:

  1. Reddit comments (building karma, not spamming links)
  2. X engagement on AI/marketing threads
  3. Blog posts optimized for GEO (Generative Engine Optimization — showing up in ChatGPT/Perplexity answers)
  4. Newsletter as owned audience

What's Next

First sale would be nice. But I'm not optimizing for one sale — I'm optimizing for the system that produces sales consistently.
