Forget about your competitors!
What?!
Yes, I am telling you to forget about them, even if they start to copy off your idea, because they are highly likely going to.
@usamakhalid recent twitter post resonated with me before there is a fear from entrepreneurs when competitors copy.
What to do when you get copied
Getting copied is a reality - so prepare yourself
When you are in that moment, just remember one very important thing:
Stay focused on your customers
You have all of the information on what your audience needs, rather than your competitors.
That’s your clear advantage over a copycat business, and you need to make the most of it.
Whether you’re copying or being copied, you’re in direct competition with another company, and that can be incredibly uncomfortable for most founders.
You don't have to be angry about being copied. You have to be business savvy and stay true to yourself, and the reasons why your business exists
What do you do, when you find out a competitor has copied your idea?
Listen , once upon a time there was Best buy and Future shop. Same companies, same prices, same everything just different branding. I liked to go Future shop because I like their color better. It was red. Best buy is blue.
It's unproductive to worry about competitor copying ideas as most of the products are not radically different from what is already available.
What differentiates one product from another is not just features. It can be customer relations, creating a community or something else.
Good ideas getting copied is inevitable, we can delay it sometimes but cannot avoid it altogether.
There are multiple open source based startups doing great. Supabase provides backend as a service, a firebase alternative and it's open source. Being open source has made it better alternative as it helps alay fear of lock-in.
