πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ Today is a big day for me because after quite some time playing around with different ideas, I know now what comes next. I'll enhance this blog about software engineering with a podcast. This is such a big step for me because I struggled with deciding which way to go. I also was (am) very much afraid of starting a podcast - mainly because I am not a native speaker. But, now I dare to do it. It feels so good. So authentic.

So, today, I worked mainly on the first steps of making this podcast a reality.

πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ published a new post and posted on indie hackers about it.

  3. 2

Today I'm reading, listening to podcasts and taking notes. Mostly I read/listen to business & community related things, so these things have a direct impact on my work at IH too. It's nice that it is all inter-connected.

  4. 2

This month I'm working on growing Indie Hackers' milestones feature.

βœ… YESTERDAY I didn't do anything to grow the milestones feature. Instead I did a bunch of stuff for the podcast.

    πŸ† RESULTS were therefore non-existent.

πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ TODAY I'm going to do some planning for bringing milestone posters onto the podcast and send out some invites.

    1. 2

Hopefully this tweet has some kind of positive impact for the milestones -

    @colevscode on Twitter: -1 to 589

Formspree mailing list: +3 to 842

πŸ‘·β€β™€οΈ What are you doing today?

Not a lot. I may start a draft on a new announcement / update blogpost for the newsletter.

    πŸ™ Where I need help:

I'd love some feedback on our upcoming Blogophonic post. Check it out here:

    >> Blog post draft <<

We're fixing to launch on Mon or Tues.

Also, I have a couple questions:

    • Are there better tools for sharing and getting public feedback on drafts?
    • How should we promote that post? Doesn't seem great for HN -- any other suggestions?

    My growth attempt

Yesterday, I spent some time writing up an answer on Quora to β€œWhich is the best email auto follow up tool?”

A successful founder friend of mine told me he has had some great traction responding to Quora questions, so I figured it’s worth a shot.

Typing it up took about 30-45 minutes, and it was actually a nice experience to put into words and come up with a "top 5 reasons" why people reading should use my product for this feature.

    Here is the Quora link

    Results

It was viewed 9 times in one day! I believe every view, read, and click counts for something! If I did this every day, it could really add up! But it was pretty time-consuming.

However, I think this could and should be outsourced. I’m going to think about that - but I'll write a few more manual ones to get a feel for Quora, what works and stuff.

    Today

I'm going to record and share (on Twitter and the blog) a short YouTube video that shows how my product makes a certain interaction really fast for bloggers - and it's something that bloggers can relate to.

    --

Oh - one last thing - I've been recording each day in the 30 Days of Growth in this Google Doc - I plan to eventually share this out and hopefully I get some new customers this month and can use this as a potential future blog post to show others the growth challenge really works!

    Metric: Sign ups

    --

This will be my last post for a while since I'm going on vacation tomorrow, but it was a good day to wrap up on! Google rankings jumped back up after making some fixes, and an Indie Hackers feature got me a ton of good feedback on the product as well as many (admittedly, probably low value) sign ups.

    βœ“ What I Did Yesterday

    • Added a sitemap and submitted pages to Google index.
    • Fixed canonical URLs.
    • Recorded screencast: Setting up a new project with Pegasus
    • Got featured on Indie Hackers and responded to a bunch of feedback.

πŸ’ͺ What I Plan to do Today

    • Nothing! Taking a week off in the Wild Coast. :)

    πŸ“ˆ Sign Up Count: 33 (+9!)

See you all in a week or so!

  15. 1

βœ… I did some recording of a screencast as planned.
βœ… I embedded another podcast with audio and transcripts onto the site. This one is on Space Repetition, its history where it works well and where it's counter-productive.
πŸ† I got an invite to moderate a subreddit relevant to my audience.
βš—οΈ Tomorrow, I'll edit my screencast.

    1. 3

What tools are you using for screencasting?

How do you get an invite to moderate a subreddit? Did you ask or were you just active and they reached out?

      1. 1

I'm using OBS for recording and Shotcut for editing.

I probably got the invite because I've produced more free Elixir screencasts than anyone else on the web.
