Tips on getting Twitter followers for your product?
I've noticed lots of apps and websites that don't seem that well known have thousands of Twitter followers. Any tips on how to replicate this? Did you use any tricks yourself? I feel like I must be missing something.
For one of my apps (https://www.checkbot.io/), I have a link to the Twitter account in the app, on the website, in the changelog, in the newsletter, in the middle of articles, at the start of help docs etc. but only a tiny percentage of people follow the account. How else can I nudge more people to follow?
I tend to only post on Twitter when there's new feature releases but this seems like something fans of the app would be very interested in. I could post more content but given I barely get any followers when I try posting more often on Twitter right now it doesn't seem a good use of time. Do you need to be posting very often to get followers? How do you balance this with other uses of time if so?
Would a competition help? e.g. "follow and retweet for a chance to win X".
Reach out ot me if u apply above things & get some traction. I have lot more tips for u only if YOU ACT on above tips & get some results.
Why does the handle name length matter?
I would personally take the opposite advice and ignore Twitter. It's a low-conversion audience and a huge time-sink. Twitter follower count is basically vanity metrics personified.
Yeah, there's some marginal benefit to having more followers over less, but the time cost is big, and (in my opinion) you'd get better gains investing that same time elsewhere.
I like having Twitter available so when people are complaining about my products (without actually contacting me/support) I can proactively reach out to them and help (via a search of my product, as opposed to being tagged in). But you don't need high follower numbers to do that...
I would follow people in your industry and if you have any customers then follow them too. No harm in following your competitors or people that they follow or that follow them.
I would also participate in relevant conversations, help people out, no need to promote your product.
One thing I often do is share other people's content and tag them into the tweet. This might make them follow you, but there's also the chance they could retweet your post too.
I would also not get too caught up in vanity follower numbers. It's easy to get carried away with thinking that they will make a huge difference to your business.
The most simple yet effective way is to start following 20-25 people a week that are relevant to your space. You also want to ensure you have your Twitter account in your email signature. If you as an individual have an active account; retweet the company account frequently... And join Twitter chats when possible.
"Checkbot for Chrome: SEO, speed & security checker " vs "Checkbot"
Are you basing this on any evidence that this helps conversions?
The Twitter handle name is @GetCheckbot which is short. The Twitter profile name is longer so you get a hint what the product is to entice you to look at the profile. It seems intuitive to me that a less descriptive profile name is going to lead to less profile views.
I can't see why having a (slightly) easier to remember and quicker to read profile name is going to lead to more profile views.
Better if is name self explanatory. "@ChromeSEOBot " may b better than @GetCheckbot " which confuses me. May b my fault.
BTW, u r repeating the same info 3 times - Profile Name, Bio and also in header image which can b better utilized in more strategic way.
