Dealing with disappointment and a realisation about my target audience.

The main thing that I always read on this is to find a good problem statement, an actual problem not a fictional one. Well I found it, earlier this year I started training with a personal trainer, the trainer left his job to pursue other employment opportunities and this left me short about 6 weeks of training planning.

My plans were gone, my motivation was gone and my trainer was gone. I needed a way to plan my workouts because I knew for a fact I wouldn't go to the gym without something to say to me, go to the gym today.

So I started playing with OpenAI and discovered it was generating near matches for the workouts that my trainer had been giving me. So I played some more and as a result and from some encouragement I packaged it up into https://gymbuddy.ai

It was going great, I was seeing users coming in, using the app, I was seeing them record their results and then once their free week was over... silence... the usage statistics dropped, I've tried offering promotional offers in order to generate some interest but it just doesn't seem to be there.

So what am I to do? do I just let it all sit there and a few weeks of work go to waste? do I try to sell it on? Do I suck it up and keep pushing forward... no. It's time for a new game plan.

The disappointment I felt that users weren't converting made me realise something, i'm targeting the wrong people. My problem statement is fine, but my target audience is wrong, instead of going after gym goers, I need to go after gyms, instead of going after clients I need to go after trainers.

Am I disappointed that my users don't trust like the app enough to continue using it? yes, but in the long term, it's shown me that I was on the wrong path.
