Debate IH: Should we trade quality for speed?
I am having an internal debate about hiring practices.
Steve Job has some great quotes about hiring only A players. YC's Startup School talks a lot about care and caution in hiring.
But what if you are a little IndieHacker with no draw? Should you settle for B, C, or D players in the hopes of scraping by?
I have read this forum long enough to know that the conventional wisdom here is speed above all else.
But does that also apply to hiring decisions?
We could have built 10x more for my business if I had settled on B players. But the quality would be correspondingly lower.
What are your thoughts?
Just try to hire an A player and get the real data. My guess is they are very expensive and also they have options so your business needs to be very attractive. All the time spent debating about 'should you?' is pointless, if you haven't worked out the answer to 'can you?'
