Deep Work hardware device

Hey IH!

I'm working on Deep Work Mate
https://bit.ly/deepworkmateintro

I'm building a hardware device to help you do more deep work, with a buddy.

If you're an indie hacker, it's really hard to stay focused day-to-day, and it's hard to stay motivated over the long term. Especially if you're doing it solo.

You need accountability, but getting that is hard to ask for, and takes constant effort.

If you're an indie hacker working on your own thing, I'm posting for you right now. Please watch the video and tell me:

a) Whether you would value the accountability or not. Would it help you?
b) Do you measure your time to make sure you're working hard enough? Why don't you use the existing software?

Check out the intro video here https://bit.ly/deepworkmateintro

So far, I've built a few hardware MVP units in my backyard, and I've been emailing a small group of friends who I know from startup life, with frequent progress updates. However, not all of them are indie hackers, and not all of them need accountability, so I realised I need to go straight to the source: you guys are all indie hackers, or aspiring indie hackers, so please let rip with your honest thoughts!

Awesome stuff mate, looks like the MVP oozes quality. Built with your own hands, very cool! If I was an IH working on my own thing, my answers to your questions would be:
    a) Yes
    b) I would see the measuring of time spent on tasks valuable, however wouldn't have thought about measuring "deepwork" (out of obliviousness tbh). I'm curious, what's your view on deepwork and how it relates to productivity? Any sources you'd recommend to learn more about it?
Also silly question - how many buddies can you link up? is it with just one other mate or several?

      Hey ECKJ, thanks heaps!

I can absolutely recommend Cal Newport's #1 best seller book "Deep Work". All the answers to your questions and more are in that book.

It makes some great arguments for why being able to do deep work will be a rare and valuable commodity in the future, as automation and AI take over human labour.

You can add as many buddies as you like, in any kind of grouping! Works with Slack and also with Telegram, as many channels / groups as you'd like.

Here's the page if you want to buy one of the early units, they're almost all gone!

      Cheers
      Andrew

Looks pretty polished for a "backyard" MVP @andrewclapham. Do you have a background in electronics/manufacturing? If not, how did you learn?

Thanks heaps @jck ! Nah I'm actually a software dude. My past startup experience is in payments, hardware is mostly new to me 😅 I've picked it up as I go, just figuring it out with a bit of youtube here and there. I'm starting to learn that you can learn anything on the internet!
