Deploy any fullstack app with cost in mind

Yeah, hardcore audience will take some time (years) to give enough love to. I'm personally the same as you! But after solving one problem, then comes another, and another for the hardcore audience that eventually puts kinto in a position to never to really fulfill the engineers who can do it themselves (aka terraform, helm, k8s and the rest of goodies under KintoHub)

There will be a .kinto file and cli toolset available in the next few weeks that will fulfill repeatable, audited, PR-able process.

Thanks again for your thoughts. I think by Summer 2021 we'll be able to fulfill a major piece to the hardcore fullstack developer needs.

We're focusing on any fullstack app anywhere and cost control.

On kinto you can now deploy a dedicated cloud s3 storage endpoint, mongodb, mysql, postgres and redis instances for dev and prod configurations all in one place (no need to go to a 3rd party saas). In the long term, you will even be able to deploy RDS, Cloud Storage depending on which cloud you are deploying to on kinto which would be great for production environments (managed is always better, but more costly).

When I'm experimenting with new tools our my stack is starting to expand and become more "serious", I always end up making decisions based on what the platform provides. Kinto is flexible to provide anything. Let us know if you want more - NATs, Cassandra, RabbitMQ, whatever it is - we can get it up and going quite quickly.

Comparing other alternatives like Firebase and AWS Lambda or AWS Amplify, you get the benefits of their frameworks and a lot of goodies out of the box, but you're stuck on them and coding against what they provide. The moment you desire something unique, again, you're coding against a framework and end up spinning off to containers/VMs/something custom again.

Finally - my favorite, we provide triggered jobs in a very easy way. Great for migrations, backups, reporting, etc.

Regarding cost control, there are no seats, no addons, simply pay as you go with cost clarity. How we do this is:

• Have a toggle for cost optimization which uses spot instances vs no spot instances.
• Be able to use shared CPU vs dedicated in the community
• Soon will introduce a sleep mode (like Heroku) where your services will sleep after N minutes of inactivity (configured by you), and you can enable them to not sleep in a certain time range, such as during high traffic times. Again its pay as you go, so when it's sleeping, you're not being charged.

On a side note, Kinto SaaS is not meant to be massively profitable (our margins are 20-40% on top of cloud costs - setting us to be cheaper than digital ocean). We will wait for the enterprise/SMEs to get private licensing of kinto on-prem/on private cloud. So really not aiming to be the cheapest cloud host, but just give people who are learning a place to grow.
