Describe your ideal customer?

Hey,

When building my projects - one thing I've always struggled with is clearly defining who my ideal customer is. It always ends up a bit vague.

I would love to hear how indie hackers define their customers - maybe it will give me a better sense on how to define who I am building for.

Describe the ideal customer for the project you are currently working on. Include a link to that project.

Cheers,

IH doesn't have any customers, but I suppose the ideal user is a software engineer with an entrepreneurial bent who's either already working on an Internet business or curious about starting one.

Before launching SaaSFrame.io, I thought my ideal customer was SaaS marketers and product designer but most of my paid users are actually small business owners (and not only SaaS owners)

Nice looking site & I'm interested in its contents 👍

What are you using to build your site?

        Thanks Mathias!

I'm using Webflow to build the site and MemberStack to manage subscriptions 👌

https://www.simpletasking.com ideal customer is someone that works in multiple projects with different teams, for each project is using Slack, Trello, and several more tools, and wish It could just have everything under one simple and fast platform.

An ideal customer for Bytehub would be frontend developers who can use code snippets to get beautiful & animated UI instead of developing from scratch. it lives here https://www.bytehub.dev

Echoing the sentiment from others in this thread, have seen some great stuff from you lately @dijkstrah

From the beginning my ideal customer for https://portabella.io has been someone working at a small tech company wanting a secure and minimalist project management platform. That was me a few months ago (I was even working at a privacy focused company) and I felt we didn't need all the cruft of Jira

For Spread (https://www.spreadtech.online/ ) it’s taken me a very long time to even start understanding my ICP.

The best advice I can give you is to talk to potential customers and ask them why they signup or even why they wouldn’t signup...

You’ll soon realise common traits around the individuals who best love your product. Double down on these and market your product AROUND THEM.

Spreads ICP is - Content creators/marketers in small or indie businesses.

    Nice post! :)

www.churni.io, I guess the ideal user is a growth engineer working in a SaaS SMB. I have also identified people working in marketing, customer success or founders but I'm not sure yet of which one is the best persona to target.

This is a great question @hessel. Startup Sanctuary's ideal customer is any creator or entrepreneur who is in the early stages of starting their business or project or is curious about starting one.

Loving all of your recent posts, Hessel! You’re asking a ton of great questions 😀

Still learning more about our customers every day, but this is what I can say so far:

ProfitKit’s target audience is small to medium-sized subscription businesses running on Stripe. Going a step further, our ideal customer is often someone looking

    • for transparency and customizability when it comes to their revenue numbers
    • to take a proactive stance when it comes to subscription management (being aware of subscription events before they happen — expiring trials, cancellations, delinquencies, etc.)

      Thank you!

I like that you've described you're customers i.t.o what they are looking for instead of who they are - a small change, but something I am going to try if I struggle to describe my customers.

        No problem!

Haha I think I’m in the same boat as you, where I’m still doing customer research and working towards a concrete definition of who my customers are.

At this point, I’m thinking more about “What problems does our ideal customer want to solve?” / “Why are they choosing us over the bigger, more established companies in this space?”

Good luck, and excited to see what you come up with!

The ideal customers for Letterbase are described right below the fold: solo founders, bootstrapped startups, and early-stage companies. Of those people, it specifically targets those who care a lot about customer support and privacy.
