Design as a subscription - yes, another...

Hi guys,
We have recently launched our new design service website, Turnus Studio (https://www.turnus.studio/subscription), and we would love to hear your thoughts and opinions about it.

As you might have guessed, we're testing the waters with our design subscription model. At the moment everybody is jumping the train, trying to replicate the success of... we all know who :)

We want it to supplement our main work as a design agency, but we want something simpler to cater to the dynamic design needs of smaller businesses and startups.

We kindly request you to explore our website and share your feedback.

  1. Do you think a design subscription model is a good fit for your business needs? What kind of design tasks do you usually require and how frequently?
  2. Do you see any value from the agency support (like strategy and business consult) with this kind of service? Or do you want just a straight design work?
  3. What is missing and what do you see as a "must have" from your point of view?
  4. Is a country of origin important for you? Or being outside US does not matter, as long as the job is done well and communication is not a problem?

Please, be brutal and shoot straight - I would love to hear your opinion, especially since not many of that kind of services is thriving at the moment.

Thank you for your time and your honesty. I must admit, even being very new to the community, I am extremely impressed by this place. Have a lovely day.

Giving you feedback on your site.

Everything on your website is color-coordinated.

You are definitely a designer because you are doing so much with the color green and white.

Your website has a lot of copy on it but in a way, it feels not cluttered.

You might want to talk with a Enterprise startup and build a network of scaling startups that are eager to cover their own branding.

    Your website looks nice.

Hey @TurnUs, wow! Really cool website and copywriting!

In general, my only feedback on the website is that I would like to see some examples of how a request from a client and subsequent communication and final product looks like either in writing (email or chat) and/or example video with a client who has given you permission to record and show part of your Zoom meeting.
Showing the desired level of detail you like to get from clients might also help you get the type of clients you would like to get.

    Website typos:

    • you repeat the answer for the first two answers on your FAQ. The answer to "How fast can I expect delivery on my requests?" is the same as the answer to "Can I split subscriptions between two brands?".
I think the "How fast can I expect delivery on my requests?" is missing the real answer.
    • you also repeat the "Are there any hidden fees or charges?" twice in the FAQ. If it's intentional I guess I don't get it.
    • On your FAQ you say "No, our subscription fee is all-inclusive and there are no hidden fees or charges." but on your checkout "Copywriting" is presented as a 599 EUR/month add-on. This seems inconsistent with the "all-inclusive" statement in the FAQ.

    Now, to your questions:

    1. I've used freelancers but mostly I've learned design and UX to where I can get a project started but I'm not at a point where I could afford a design agency.

    2. Yes, that's probably a good opportunity but I think you need to showcase specific examples, with customer reviews (both in text/image as well as video).

3.1 It seems almost too good to be true. Maybe this month you don't have that many clients and you'll deliver very good service and next month you'll sell 20 subscriptions and you'll have barely any time to work on what I need. So maybe explain or just state that you are excellent at managing a variable workload and that there may be a waitlist to add you to a subscription tier.

3.2 I think the idea of a subscription is really cool as you can communicate with designers as if they are in-house and there doesn't need to be a discussion about pricing.
Maybe consider a business model, where if a business does not use you at all for a whole month they get 50% applied toward next month's subscription and 25% if the total amount of work is less than 20h. Something along these lines. So it's kind of like a monthly retainer but for design.

    1. No, though I'm not in the US. It is important that if I would want to have a Zoom meeting that they have good audio and video quality and a good internet connection.

Btw. from what I can tell the vibe here on Indiehackers seems to favor the idea that everyone is representing themselves as a person first (even as a pseudonym) and then of course the business(es) that they are working on. Communicating with what seems to be a brand (Turn Us Studio) feels a bit weird.

I hope this business strategy works out for you and you get lots of new subscriptions!

Thank you @MyetaM for your valuable insights. All the typos were cleared - thank you for pointing them out. Regarding other insights - they were very helpful in better understanding how users perceive the website, there are some real gems.

BTW. Now it's changed to fit the community vibe better :)
